This is the extremely rare UK DARK Purple label Press of Machine Head, with Made in Gt Britain' text and the word 'PURPLE' on the labels, left hand side of the labels. These dark purple label pressings were produced in extremely small numbers, replaced almost immediately by the standard lighter purple label.

THIS IS A COMPLETE GENUINE RARE UK PRESS AND IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A COMPLETE EXAMPLE OF A ROCK GIANT IN ARCHIVAL CONDITION.

Machine Head is the classic studio album released by Deep Purple. It was recorded through December 1971 in Montreux, Switzerland, and released in March 1972.

Machine Head is often cited as hugely influential in the development of the heavy metal and progressive rock music genres. It is by far Deep Purple's most successful recording, topping the charts in several countries following its release. The album reached #1 in the United Kingdom, where it stayed for 20 weeks in the top-40, and #7 in the United States, remaining on the Billboard 200 for 118 weeks.

Machine Head contains classical and blues influences. Blackmore confirmed that the chord progression for the solos in "Highway Star" was inspired by the work of 18th-century composer Johann Sebastian Bach. The song was actually composed by Blackmore and Gillan at the start of the Fireball gigs on a bus travelling to Portsmouth Guild Hall, in response to a question from a member of the press as to how the band created their material.

Machine Head hit the number one spot on the British charts within seven days of its release, remaining there for two weeks before returning in May for a further week. In the US, the album reached number seven, remaining in the charts for two years. Allmusic critic Eduardo Rivadavia called Machine Head "one of the essential hard rock albums of all time."

TOP AUDIO - NEAR MINT 

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING: Yes – Fantastic! - NEAR MINT sound quality throughout!

This great record plays up to the visual and audio grading and beyond, with stunning clear sound from this original early press vinyl. 

Machine Head is a complex and varied collection of music, and is also a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like ' Lazy.' This pressing has strong undistorted audio, with Super clear QUALITY sound. 

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes. Some light occasional static only, and it is light and very occasional. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, NO sticks or jumps what so ever, and virtual silence between the tracks. There is certainly no dominant  interference, and NO loud pops or clicks or Distortion anywhere. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

This vinyl is an absolute gem! A super clear pressing of Machine Head. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity. I'll give a detailed account below:

Beginning with the iconic 'Highway Star', the music comes in with crystal clear audio, no pops or clicks and nice clean run ins. Moving into the wonderful 'Maybe I'm a Leo', which demonstrates Deep Purple's incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity.  Simply astounding audio. 'Pictures of Home', a real test on this  album due to its many layered sections sings out with very little static in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. Still no pops or clicks during the music, and not a hint of distortion. In fact I may as well confirm now that there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great vinyl. The music is just flawless. The massive 'Never Before' plays with crystal clear sound, and the long instrumental section layered again, sounds great. Superb clear bright sound, amazing, some very light occasional background static only, which maintains the very high standard of this vinyl. 

Side 2. comes in with the great 'Smoke on the Water', following good clear run ins, a bit of very light static, and then the audio is just superb, with absolutely minimal static, no loud pops or clicks and extremely clear vocal layering. Just amazing bright clear audio. 'Lazy', another massive track also sings out, with great clarity and an amazing lack of surface sound. Another track often blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. The quiet intro plays superbly. There is some static for the first few seconds and a couple of light tics, but these are not intrusive. When the vocals come in the quiet areas are incredibly clear.

'Space Truckin' sounds just superb, it just sounds so clear. All the way through every track plays with incredible definition. The complex arrangements in 'Space Truckin'  play so well, with astounding audio precision. A total lack of pops, clicks, interference, and certainly no distortion anywhere on this great pressing, makes this a truly incredible collectable press of this great record. The music jumps out, with incredible definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut Stereo engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

A great all round example of this classic vinyl. This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the Audio an EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT grading.

Staggering first (stereo) mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. A great all round example of this great vinyl.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING 

This is a superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original pressings, this vinyl has not been over played. The record has great shine, with a couple of very light hairlines. Inspected under a spot light, it still looks great, with a few very light paper removal marks, and whispy lines. This is a great example. Unbelievable to think this record is 40 years old! Grades at EXCELLENT PLUS.

THE COVER 

Comes with the original Side Loading Gatefold Sleeve in astounding condition.

Great example, a UK ORIGINAL gatefold cover. Made in the medium thick card and is laminated on the front and rear. This really is  a superb cover, with very little to fault it, other than a couple of very light laminate creases. Has been stored in a thick plastic sleeve and is a great example.

There is no feathering to the openings, which is very rare and no surface scratches. NO ring wear, no gauges or marks. The spine is solid and a very square example, and the text is totally complete and legible. All round this is a really superb example of this rare cover!  Grades at EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT.

THE INNER

Comes with  the original white original and correct "PATENT"  inner sleeves, -  No splits, NO creasing or staining, just some slight yellowing - Easily grades as EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION!

The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.

FAIR: Fair. It is noticeable that the record has been played so much that the sound quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The cover and contents are showing signs of folding, scuffing of edges etc.
