Another from my personal collection! Original 1st UK Pressing features the earliest A-1 B-1 Matrix endings and "The Gramophone Co ....." Rim text (Only 1st UK Pressings. (Later Pressings do not feature this and the vinyls are much more flimsier) Purchased about 45 years ago and stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the sleeve and cover! This is how I have always stored my records!   Absolutely stunning top audio on my systems and any interference is minimal in my opinion in the form of isolated static heard in quiet places only! The 1st issue E.Day & co Cover is graded at excellent with light  general wear and tear only!  Any interference noted is just light static/isolated crackle/ticks heard only and could do with a contant cleaning before plays due to being stored in a case laying dormant for over 45 years.

The Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a concerto composed by Jon Lord, with lyrics written by Ian Gillan.




It was first performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold on 24 September 1969 and released on vinyl in December 1969.




After the score was lost in 1970, it was performed again in 1999 with a recreated score.




The 1969 performance was the first ever combination of rock music and a complete orchestra and paved the way for other rock/orchestra performances such as Metallica's S&M concert and Roger Waters's The Wall – Live in Berlin performance.




he Concerto for Group and Orchestra is split into three movements.




First movement (Moderato – Allegro)






After an extended orchestral introduction, the group and orchestra work as separate blocks, trying to get dominance over the main theme and working as antagonists to each other. There are cadenzas for electric guitar and clarinet.






Second movement (Andante), with lyrics sung by Ian Gillan
This movement is based around two tunes that are played in various different arrangements by the orchestra and the group, individually and together. After a combined pop / blues version of the second tune, there is an organ cadenza followed by a quiet ending by the orchestra.
Third movement (Vivace – Presto)
Apart from Ian Paice's drum solo, the music combines the orchestra and group together in a "free for all". The movement alternates between 6/8 and 2/4 time signatures.

The vinyl

This is vinyl the original heavier and thicker type of vinyl (only earliest press) later press are much more flimsier and less robust.
This vinyl looks superb! Note: in strong light possible sleeve removal type scuffs/scratches might be seen only. Importantly,, No deep scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops.
 

The Audio

This was played on a top system at very loud volume prior to listing   The audio is very vibrant, cristal clear  with (no) distortion at all! (no) loud constant clicks or pops heard! (note: Please allow for isolated light static type crackle/ticks noted that may be heard in quiet places or in between some tracks Note: The vinyl has been laying dormant in a case for over 45 years and would need to have a constant cleaning before each play. Note Debrit was seen on the playing surface after play, indicating this. I would class myself as highly critical please look at my completed listing of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right! The audio is graded at least excellent plus to very near mint in my opinion.

Points to note! This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 45 years! A build up of dirt and dust over the years causes static ticks\crackle. A constant clean is recomended before each play. From my personal experiance this reduces static crackle and enhances the audio qaulity!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have described the audio quality as honest and as I heard it. Although i never heard any major problems other than prevoiously described, Please allow for the odd light static crackle\ticks here and there (not) consistant through out the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 49 year old vinyl that would have originally have been played on a 49 year old system!


The labels

These are the 1st UK issued  EMI/ UK  labels, Earliest press features "The Gramophone co....." Rim text (Only 1st Press)  This has had minimal play only in my personal opinion. Spidering can be seen when angled to the light around the spindle hole. Little if no spindle wear, the spindle hole is perfectly round and free of any wear.
 

The Record Sleeve

This is the plain white paper sleeve patented with made in England printed on one side. The vinyl has been seperated from the sleeve! Light fading/staining with age only. The edges becomming fraging with age.

The Cover

This is the 1st UK issued LAMINATED FRONT ONLY UK E.DAY&CO  Printed'' gatefold cover! There is some light general wear and tear scuffing with age at the corners to mention and some light corner bumping noted. The laminate is generally glosy with just one minor thumb crease noted only at the front and very minor crease lines aty the edges/spine edge. There is a slight vinyl imprint noted at the rear but not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Overal this 49 year old cover is graded at excellent in my opinion.
