DECCA LXT 2813 ?JAN DAMEN - VIOLIN ? SIBELIUS CONCERTO
Description
DECCA LXT 2813 –JAN DAMEN - SIBELIUS CONCERTO in D FOR VIOLIN
This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so.
Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included where these are available.
RECORD GRADING
EXCELLENT
Although this record has many feint hairlines, on both sides, they seem to have little or no effect at all when listening. The record plays remarkably well for one so old. It was first released in 1953. As the reviewer in the Gramophone Magazine said (see photograph) “The recording is excellent” - and so it is with this record today.
Apart from the customary vinyl ‘roar’ at its beginning, side one plays very quietly with only a very few infrequent, soft clicks.
On Side two, the vinyl ‘roar’ has almost disappeared and there are hardly any background clicks, certainly no repetitive ones, and no pops.
Visually, the record does look as if has been very little played. As the photographs show, there are no spindle marks on the disc labels. I suspect the hairlines originate more from ‘scratching’ when the record was taken out of and replaced in its quite stiff paper sleeve which I think these Decca Mono’s were somewhat prone to. The record has not been cleaned as I do not own the necessary equipment to do this.
COVER GRADING
VERY GOOD
The cover is undamaged. There are a few ‘spottings’ on the card surface (these early sleeves were not protected with a transparent coating). The rear suffers from the remains of what I suspect was once a piece of sticky tape to hold the sleeve together. It has clearly since been carefully and successfully glued. Fully intact but a little grubby would be a fair description.
This really is a great opportunity to acquire a quite rare recording, and one which can be thoroughly enjoyed because it plays so well.
I have no wish for you to be disappointed by your purchase. If you think the grading/description was unfair or unreasonable when you receive the record, you may return it and you will have a full refund of all that you have paid me.
All I require is that you contact me within 7 days of its receipt to tell me you intend to return it, and that I receive the record in the same condition as it was when it was sent to you.
