Description

This auction is for FOUR  (4) DAVID McCALLUM RELATED VINYL RECORD ALBUMS: "MUSIC: A PART OF ME"  /  "MUSIC: A BIT MORE OF ME" / "MUSIC: IT'S HAPPENING NOW!" / "THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. -- AND OTHER TV THEMES".
One is in stereo, and three are in mono.  The covers are generally in at least very good condition, with two still in the shrink wrap.  Most of the vinyl is in at least very good plus condition.  I actually play-tested all four albums!  What a trip...

Upon doing research, it is my opinion that some sellers grading system is totally out of whack.  I don't understand how a cover can be graded "excellent" when it looks like it went through the ringer.  And on top of that, they are grading the vinyl by how it looks yet.  Amazing.  I know that the lp in this lot, "Music: A Bit More Of Me", is the centerpiece of this auction.  I grade ULTRA-conservatively.  If I see of hear the tiniest thing, I will point it out to you.  All my descriptions are as if you are holding the album cover in your hands and looking at it, as you are also listening to the album.  All details follow...

1.     "MUSIC: A PART OF ME"  --  This album is in STEREO, with catalogue number ST-2432.  It is still in the shrink wrap (photograph #2).

On the front cover, there are the beginnings of some light black ring wear above David's hair (picture #3).  Some browning has taken place on the open edge, more noticeable on the back cover (photo #5).  Along the bottom edge, there are brown dots where the two air holes are, and both bottom corners are blunted (pic #4 shows one blunt).  A price sticker appears in the upper left corner.  "Satisfaction" is listed on the cover as being the lead cut on side one, but it actually ends side two (the record label is correct).  The COVER is in VERY GOOD (VG) condition.

The VINYL is in VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) condition.  The occasional low pop may be heard (on "The In Crowd", to name one), with more turning up near the end of the song "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" (there is a short, feel-able scratch right near the end of the song...see photo #8).  There MAY be a very tiny warp on the outer edge of the record.  I say "maybe", because the first time I played the opening song, I thought I heard the needle jump, so I played it again...and nothing.  You could possibly hear a few "thumps" when the needle passes over this spot, but it shouldn't skip.  I track my needle very lightly, so it practically floats, and it did not skip for me.  Some light scratches can be seen on the record.  The labels look perfect (love those old Capitol label rainbow swirls).

2.     "MUSIC: A BIT MORE OF ME"  --  This album is in MONO, with catalogue number T-2498.  Picture #9 shows the cover.

Apparently, the second side song "The Edge" was sampled by the great Dr. Dre for his blockbuster hit "The Next Episode" (find it on youtube).  Whoever digged deep in to a crate for this song deserves a medal.  I hope David got some money out of the deal, but I doubt it (since he didn't write it).

There are scribbling indentations in the upper right corner (as if you were scribbling with a pen that had no ink in it...see photograph #10).  A couple of small wear spots appear on the bottom edge, as well as the beginnings of some light ring wear (photograph #11)  On the back cover (pic #12), the bottom left corner is blunted.  You can see that there is browning (and maybe a circle of staining...pic #13) along the top and the right edge.  The COVER is in VERY GOOD (VG) condition.

The VINYL is in VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) condition.  Some low pops were heard on "Five O'clock World", and there sounded like there was slightly more wear on the second side than on the first side.  Some light scratches can be seen, of course.  Still, it all sounded great, with no skips or loud scratches.  The labels look perfect.

3.     "MUSIC: IT'S HAPPENING NOW!"  --  This album is in MONO, with catalogue number T-2651.  It is still in the shrink wrap...photograph #16.

On the front cover, there is some light browning along the white edges (pic #17 shows along the top edge).  The two right corners are blunted.  The remnants of an old price sticker appear to the right of David's face.  On the back cover, again there is browning along all edges, mostly on the open left edge (picture #18).  A price sticker appears in the upper right corner.  A name and date is written in pen on the inside edge of the back cover (inside the cover, so you can't see it...photo #19).  The COVER is in VERY GOOD (VG) condition.

The VINYL is in VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) condition.  Some very light age "static" can be heard on some cuts far in the background.  I wouldn't call this scratching or wear, as you can't see anything if you were looking at the vinyl.  Some minor pops on "Alfie".  Light surface scratches can be seen but not really heard.  The labels look great.  This comes in the original Capitol inner sleeve (which promotes The Beatles Help and Rubber Soul albums, as well as The Beach Boys Party lp).

4.     "THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.  --  AND OTHER TV THEMES"  --  This album is in MONO, with the catalogue number M-544.

The front cover (photograph #22) has a small staple in the top left corner.  There is white wear along the bottom edge and the bottom seam.  All four corners are blunted or have wear.  The back cover is beat (pic #23).  You can see that there is pink writing and underlining all over the place.  A large stain appears in the upper right corner, and continues down the right side.  No seam splits.  The COVER is in GOOD condition.

The VINYL is in VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-) condition.  It looks worse than it sounds.  There is a long scratch on side two (photo #24), but surprisingly, it doesn't affect play too much.  I expected to hear "tic tic tic" on every revolution, but you do not hear that.

I am going to clean these with a DiscWasher and replace the inner sleeves with new white ones (I will include the old sleeves too).
