Thank you.
This is a genuine and complete UK first pressing of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars which looks absolutely stunning throughout.
Sleeve: This original 1st press sleeve, printed in England by Robert Stace, looks great. It has no Mainman logo on the rear, and can be differentiated from 2nd press and later sleeves by the fact that, although it is matt, it has a slight sheen and sepia tones, which later sleeves don't have. These first press sleeves are quite delicate and so rarely turn up in this condition. There is no ring wear, no wear to the seams or opening and just the very, very slightest hint of wear to the corners. The bottom left hand corner has a very slight dent (which is just visible in the photos) but other than this, the sleeve is as good an example of the 1st press sleeve as I have ever seen.
Inner sleeve: This is the original 1st press inner sleeve. It has no seam splits, no tears and no major creases. It has just slight signs of tarnishing from handling on the white parts (the worst of this can be seen in the photos, on the right hand edge of the lyric side). Again, this is as near perfect as you'll get for a genuine 1972 first issue.
Record labels: The labels look equally fantastic and show virtually no signs of having been played. The labels are shiny and the credits are Titanic/Chrysalis.
Record Matrix information: Stamped into the run offs are the following numbers BGBS 0864-1E and BGBS 0865-1E, which indicate that this is a genuine first pressing. (Watch out for early second pressings which have -2E on side two and are often passed-off as first pressings.)
Playing surfaces: The vinyl looks fantastic. The photo will give you an idea of how good it looks. I have inspected it carefully under 160 watt halogen spotlight and can see only wispy, sleeve-removal marks etc. I have also carefully listened to the entire album using high-quality headphones and the playback provides a very good aural experience although not as good as you might expect from the visual inspection. Obviously the whole record plays through with absolutely no jumps, skips or sticks anywhere at all, and other than a very, very soft click (audible only in the left channel) for ten revolutions during the outro to Five years/intro to Soul Love, I heard no repetitive clicks anywhere. There are the inevitable, random clicks or pops here and there and background noise during playback, audible mainly in the quiet parts of the LP but which can't be heard during most of the songs. This background noise is most noticeable during the run-in and run-out grooves, the intros/outros of the songs and the silent grooves between tracks. The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for a 37 years old record, although it doesn't live-up to the visual inspection.
