Description
For sale is a rare and very playable 1st U.K. press copy of David Bowie’s self titled second album (later rebranded as SPACE ODDITY) on the Philips label.
Despite the success of the single Space Oddity, the album did not bother the charts and sold relatively few copies, hence the difficulty in getting hold of reasonable copies today.
The notoriously fragile unlaminated gatefold sleeve is at least VG condition - whilst there is edge and spine wear and some fading it is intact with no tears or writing.
Original inner sleeve is also in VG condition.
Visually the album is an easy VG. There are scuffs and hairlines but no feelable scratches. The labels are very clean with no writing.
Sonically the majority of the record is a VG+. There are a few light pops at the beginning of the opening track, but after that just some light crackles which a good professional clean might reduce.
The final track of side 2 has about a minute of light surface noise at the beginning. Therefore I conservatively grade side 2 as VG. There are no sticks skips or jumps at any point.
All in all an enjoyable listen for a now hard to find 50 year old classic.
If you have a recently reissued and remastered copy, why not add the original to finish your collection.
