Description

CATALOGUE NUMBER: SF 8244
CANADIAN MATRIX NUMBERS:
Side 1: APRS-5947
Side 2: APRS-5948
RELEASE DATE: 1971
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: UK / Canada
DESCRIPTION: 11-track stereo vinyl LP. Sleeve: This is the first "Robert Stace" printed front laminated picture sleeve with no "MainMan" or "Gem production" text and logo in the top right-hand corner on the rear, complete with lyric insert. The lyric insert does have the "Gem Production" text and logo on the rear. When Hunky Dory was originally released in December 1971, it sold very few copies, so this first pressing sleeve is extremely rare. Record: At this point things get a little odd, the vinyl is the Canadian Dynaflex issue [APRS-5947]. I have thought for years that back in the 70's some unscrupulous record dealer pulled the wool over my eyes. However after spending a considerable amount of time reading through David Bowie forums it seems others collectors bought the same variant. The history of Hunky Dory is very complex and although I have done some research I am not an expert but one thing's for sure, this sleeve is extremely rare!

UK RECORD COLLECTOR'S GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
