This is a genuine December 1971 1st pressing

with all of the the following key features...

·         Only the very first geniune December 1971 1st pressings of this LP were laminated on the front cover and spine (running approximately 1/2" over on to the rear) with the rest of the rear cover remaining unlaminated – subsequent pressings were unlaminated  on both sides

·         The laminated Robert Stace 1st pressing cover is much thicker than later pressings and of a much higher quality

·         The orange RCA 1st pressing labels are 'shiny' whereas later ones have a matt finish

·         Later pressings had different label credits - see scan for 1st pressing credits

·         Has 'A GEM PRODUCTION' credit on the labels (but not on the top right hand side of the rear cover) and no ‘Mainman’ credits on any part of the 1st pressing – whereas later pressing have 'Mainman' mentioned somewhere on the label/cover/insert  and/or have 'A GEM PRODUCTION' on the top right hand side of the rear cover

·         The vinyl is of a thicker quality than later pressings

·         Cat. No is SF 8244 (LSP 4623) with APRS 5947/8 matrix Numbers

·         The earliest 1st pressing matrix numbers are : Side 1 = APRS 5947– 3T and Side 2 = APRS 5948 – 3T

·         The run-out groove has “Rasputin” and 'A1J' hand-etched on one side and ‘Bobil’ and 'A1H' on the other. Later pressings had A2?  or higher numbers.

The one on offer here has all of the above characteristics

Cover: No writings/doodles/seam splits. No laminate lift and no missing laminate other than a little at the edges. Lightish wear to edges/corners. Light ringwear to rear. Rates as Excellent.

Inner sleeve: Plain white paper rounded edges non-polylined inner sleeve with patent no. 1,125,555. Excellent - not even any seam splits.

Lyric insert: No rips/tears/writings/doodles -  slight small stain near bottom corner - see photo. Rates as Excellent.

Vinyl: Thick first pressing vinyl. Lovely sheen to the vinyl. Not play tested. Not Mint but looks to be Near Excellent to Excellent. Lightly played and well cared for. Under a strong light there are a few light marks/hairlines - mostly caused by the paper inner rather than through play.

Labels: Near Mint.

Gradings.......Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and  scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
