DAVID BOWIE The Man Who Sold The World Mercury 6338 041 (Ultra rare original 1971 German issue 9-track vinyl LP cover), THE ROUND COVER, a stunning & unique fold-out circular picture sleeve, complete with the original red card lyric inner sleeve)
"The Man Who Sold The World” would wind up being released in four different sleeves. The original UK Mercury release with the notorious “drag” cover that was immediately replaced with a quizzical colour cartoon of a grumbling vigilante with sheathed rifle passing by a town square, its tower clocks shot out. But the West German version on Mercury took the cake: released in a circular die-cut, the cover depicts an illustration of a winged Bowie-headed creature with a posterior hand poised to flick the tiny planet earth out of its orbit, its universe and into the furthest reaches of oblivion. RCA re-released it in 1972 with the far more conservative update in a black and white ‘Ziggy’ photo sleeve. The fold-out circular picture sleeve is prone to wear and splits from constant folding and unfolding - this one however has all folds/edges intact with only minor shelfwear, manifesting as a little light corner creasing to one exposed corner (see pics) of the inner & some light edge scuffing which is easily overlooked and doesn't detract from the overall beauty of the piece. No seam splits...A great piece, these are pics of the actual LP cover and inner sleeve, all text is clearly legible.

What a brilliant LP cover this is . A work of art and Extremely rare!!!

If you are lucky, eBay manages to locate maybe one a year .

This is just another inconceivably rare Bowie original. Much rarer is the condition of this high standard . A very common flaw in these roundcovers is many have serious wear on the sleeves. 

None of that here .

In the 80's this was conterfeited, the counterfeiter made his "copy" from a round cover that had traces of cellophan tape running along the top, which was then copied onto the counterfeit. (This is if your holding the sleeve with the writing facing you). There is no cellophan impression on this cover, this is the real deal. They just do not make things like this anymore and they never made that many back then . Imagine the cost to a record company to produce a sleeve of this unusually high standard. Mercury created an instant collectable !

The inner lyric sleeve is very good condition with only 1 edge having a dog ear type bending. The back of the LP cover does have a name written in the top left corner, (see pics). This LP is much rarer than the dress cover or the 69 Philips LP .

This does not include the LP, this is for the ultra rare cover and lyric sleeve only, I will throw in a Man Who Sold The World LP, but it is not the one that comes with this LP.
