A great opportunity to acquire a white A-label promo /demo copy of one of David Bowie's rarest and most collectable 45's which is in nice condition. It did not sell well when released... and promo copies are extremely rare. This was the UK follow-up to Space Oddity...and it 'bombed' .
On 1970 UK Mercury MF1135 in mono and bearing the ink-stamped release date of 6 March 1970 .
DAVID BOWIE - THE PRETTIEST STAR b/w CONVERSATION PIECE
'The track featured MARK BOLAN on guitar....Despite receiving good notices, the single reportedly sold less than 800 copies.....In 1973 a more glam-influenced version was recorded and released on the album Aladdin Sane with Mick Ronson recreating Bolan's original guitar part almost note-for-note'. Vinyl condition .... A-side VG+ ... a bright surface sheen, a few very light surface marks and faint hairlines/superficial small grazes noted under a bright light. No deep scratches or similar. Not played excessively. A very decent copy of this rare 45 . The B-side is visually similar in condition to the A-side .
Vinyl playback /audio .... A-side plays VG+/EX- depending on how critical you wish to be (see grading explanations below)... only a couple of minor noises notably on initial blank run-in which quickly disappear, absolutely nothing nasty at all. B-side plays VG with audible surface crackle which is more evident on the first half of the track than the second. No skips, no jumps, no nailcatchers.
Both labels are clean & undamaged. Push-out tri-centre piece. In a period Mercury sleeve.
