SYNOPSIS

   

David Bowie's first ever LP -- the 1967 set that introduced the world to the likes of "Rubber Band" and "There Is a Happy Land" -- is an intriguing collection, as much in its own right as for the light it sheds on Bowie's future career. Nobody hearing "She's Got Medals," for instance, can fail to marvel at the sheer prescience displayed by a song about gender-bending. Even within Bowie's subsequent world of alligators, starmen, and astronettes, however, there are no parallels for the likes of "Please Mr. Gravedigger," with its storm-swept lament for a murdered little girl, or "Uncle Arthur," the archetypal mommy's boy, whose one stab at snapping the apron strings shatters when he realizes his new love cannot cook. There's also a frightening glimpse into future Bowie universes, served up by "We Are Hungry Men," a tale of a world in which food is so scarce that the people have resorted to cannibalism. Not all of the songs are such sharp observations of human frailties and failings, while the distinctly family-entertainment style arrangements make it clear that, whatever audience Bowie was aiming for, rock fans were not included among them. But songs like "Love You Till Tuesday" and "Maid of Bond Street" have a catchy irresistibility to them all the same, and though this material has been repackaged with such mind-numbing frequency as to seem all but irrelevant today, David Bowie still remains a remarkable piece of work. And it sounds less like anything else he's ever done than any subsequent record in his catalog. . *

    PROCESS: After auction completion, eBay will send the buyer a draft invoice based on the transactions' parameters. The seller will follow up that draft invoice with the actual transaction invoice, taking into account any reduced postage due to multiple purchases. The invoice will have multiple shipping options notated for the buyer to select which service they desire. Payment will cover the merchandise and the shipping option that is selected.     SHIPPING METHOD: Invoice will reflect at least two options of shipping methods. SHIPPING & HANDLING FEES DISCLOSURE

    DOMESTIC:     Domestic Shipping & Handling (S&H) Fees total ($1.35). This fee is strictly a cost reimbursement as there is absolutely NO Profit, NO Supplies (tape, packing material, etc) NOR any labor built into this fee. For full, and fair, disclosure, this fee will cover the actual cost of  protective packaging (poly sleeves & custom mailers) and delivery confirmation. The intent of using these aid in the safe delivery of your merchandise to the buyer.     INTERNATIONAL:     International Shipping & Handling Fees total ($2.49) which consist of  the protective shipping items as noted in domestic plus S&H in additional to the cost associated for an extra trip to the Post Office to validate postage amounts prior to shipment and for the completion of required Customs Forms    

POSTAGE CALCULATION

   

 I use the eBay/USPS Postage Calculator Tool in order to determine postage amounts. This tool calculates postage amounts based upon the shipments' destination, shipping type, weight and (S&H) fees. 

 

    Postage types for Domestic shipments will be  is the decision of the buyer. Popular types are "Media Mail" (for lower cost) and "Priority Mail" (for quicker and more dependable delivery)       INTERNATIONAL:     Postage types for International shipments will be the decision of the buyer and will be either First Class International  (less expensive) or International Priority (quicker and more dependable).    

DELIVERY

    International shipments are much more difficult to track than domestic shipments and inevitably take longer to deliver. This being the case PLEASE be patient in waiting for the merchandise delivery as it could take a month (I've seen it many times).    

POSTAGE SAVINGS

    Buyers can always save on shipping costs by combining mulitiple auction wins which results in lower postage and eliminates the need for multiple LP mailers.

RETURNS

    Buyer will have a fourteen (14) day window of opportunity to return purchases The only qualifier is that the reason is Objective Vs.Subjective. As all vinyl collectors, and enthusiasts, are well aware, "grading" is extremely "SUBJECTIVE" and in the end is simply just one man's opinion. A difference of opinion on a vinyl's, or covers', "PROPER" or "CORRECT" grade is something that will exist. That being said, grading alone will NOT be grounds for a refund. I attempt to grade each record as very best that I can with an objective of creating buyers satisfaction. anyone as those that do so will find that action coming around to them. My feedback pretty much supports that philosophy in regards to the accurate grading. On the other hand, if there is an "OBJECTIVE" reason for returning the merchandise I will gladly accept their return. For example, a record that is listed as "Still Sealed" arrives opened, a record is advertised as a original release and turns out to be a reissue, a record is listed as a US release and turns out to be an import) then these are clearly objective reasons to return, which I will gladly accept. Merchandise that is damaged in transit should first be addressed between the buyer and the local postal delivery service.                     

GRADING PROCESS

    Grading Scale: I use "Goldmine" which is the standard that collectors use to buy and sell. See below for grading definitions and explanations.     Method (Visual Vs.  Sound): Visual, primarily due to time constraints and the volume (thousands) of records that we are dealing with. I use a bright 150W light bulb and I also grade conservatively and doing so for over thirty years. In order to ensure that buyers are happy.                     

RECORD GRADING SCALE DETAIL

1                   MINT (M): Sealed. This is the Holy Grail stage of the vinyl which can not, should not, be used on an opened item.                   NEAR MINT (NM):  A NM record “looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the very first time.” In other words, it’s nearly perfect. They are shiny w/ NO visible defects. There can be NO writing, stickers, markings, etc either on the jacket, label or vinyl. NM records do not have to be "unlayed" as  a record used on an excellent turntable can remain NM after many plays if the disc is properly cared for properly. NM covers are free of creases, ring wear & splits.                   EXCELLENT (E): I don't use this often but do so when an Item appears extremely close to Near Mint (e.g. blemishes and minimal marks exist that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye). As I grade conservatively, I can't give this a Near Mint even though the flaws might go unnoticed to others so the resultant grade is VG++                   VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): A VG+ record is “except for a couple minor factors, would be Near Mint.” VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, also. There may be some very faint signs of  ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. VG+ covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. Covers with cut-out markings can never be considered Near Mint.                   VERY  GOOD (VG): records may have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record may have surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. Many collectors who have jukeboxes will use VG records in them and not think twice. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in  better shape. VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written or it or stamped a price tag on it, too     6. GOOD (G), POOR (P) or FAIR (F): Do not plan on selling any records that fall into these cagtegories
