THIS IS ONE of the US PRESSING on PRESTIGE FOLKLORE. MONO VERSION and "BLUE NAVY" label. SINGLE COVER [Front cover has heavy gloss finish]. The cover is in VG CONDITION, normal wear BUT discolouration/wear/creases on corners/spines (1cm split on bottom right corner), surface ringwear/edgewear, tears/scratch on rear with missing part (bottom left, top right), surface marks/hairlines on front, left spine is fully readable, for details see photos. The vinyl is in VG+ condition (some clicks).

DAVE VAN RONK

Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and native New Yorker Dave Van Ronk inspired, aided, and promoted the careers of numerous singer/songwriters who came up in the blues tradition. Most notable of the many musicians he helped over the years was Bob Dylan, whom Van Ronk got to know shortly after Dylan moved to New York in 1961 to pursue a life as a folk/blues singer. Van Ronk's recorded output was healthy, but he was never as prolific a songwriter as some of his friends from that era, like Dylan or Tom Paxton. Instead, Van Ronk's genius was derived from his flawless execution and rearranging of classic acoustic blues tunes.

At the time, Van Ronk was something of an anomaly, since he was neither a smooth-singing commercial folksinger nor a singer/songwriter, but rather a performer steeped in folk-blues tradition, addressing the songs of progenitors like the Rev. Gary Davis in his own distinctive style. That may have meant that, as a sleeve note here puts it, "the full public acceptance he so convincingly deserves has somehow eluded him," but it also means he has turned out to be very influential, particularly on the wave of blues-rock artists who emerged in the late '60s...(AllMusic)
