Foolish Seasons (London PS 540) 1968
Here's a lovely copy of Dana Gillespie's very rare debut LP, only issued in the US (and as a promo at that).
Her 1969 Box Of Surprises LP on Decca has gone through the roof in recent months - but to the best of my knowledge this is a first time a copy of Foolish Seasons has been offered on eBay UK. It kicks off with the brilliant hard rock gem 'You Just Gotta Know My Mind', written (but not recorded) by Donovan, with Jimmy Page on lead guitar, after which its mood becomes more pastoral, albeit with strong pop and psychedelic influences. Intriguingly, two of the songs she sings ('Life Is Short' and 'London Social Degree') are from Billy Nicholls' fabled Would You Believe LP, issued the same year. For trivia fans, the labels on her very rare UK Decca 'You Just Gotta Know My Mind' 45 (backed with 'He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not', also included here) claim that the tracks are 'from the forthcoming Decca LP Dana Gillespie', but its release was cancelled for unknown reasons, making this the only vinyl release the songs ever got.
The fragile unlaminated gatefold sleeve is in near EX shape, with a fully legible spine (see picture). The top seam is partially split and the back cover has some small paint flecks at the top, but these are not especially noticeable. There is also a faint demo stamp on the back (all copies seem to have this).
The glossy vinyl is in beautiful EX shape.
