ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and rare LP from Ducretet Thomson (SCC 506, French pressing, ‘Concerts Colonne’ label – ED1, stereo, lamainted jacket) features Volume VI in the label's "Pierre Dervaux · Concerts Colonne · XIXe Siècle Grands Concertos" series, this issue devoted to Charles Cyroulnik's magnificent account of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, recorded at the Salle Wagram, Paris on 2 March 1962 with conductor Pierre Dervaux and l'Orchestra de l'Association de Concerts Colonne.

 

For those who collect Beethoven's Violin Concerto on record, or for those who treasure the art of the violin, this disc will prove a wonderful discovery. Cyroulnik is perhaps best known to collector's via his Beethoven Violin Sonata LP with pianist Aldo Ciccolini, and surpasses the high standard he set there. This is a spacious, and yet masterly structured reading. Incidentally, Cyroulnik plays Kreisler's cadenzas in Mvts I & III, and with great aplomb – indeed, in the First Movement cadenza Cyroulnik is one of the very few to challenge Perlman in his virtuoso projection of Kreisler’s brilliant cadenza.

III Rondo (allegro) 9:38

 

Incidentally, the fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in French only, were written by Bernard Gavoty.

 

CONDITION - PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

 

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor crushing to the lower-left corner, as well as a small sticker tear and some discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

 

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Visually, the surfaces are clean and glossy and there are no spindle trails. In terms of sound, I suppose there are some tiny 'sounds’ that some people might feel rise to the level of a ‘tic’, but in my opinion the playback is superb, with a big, open, rich sound. Nonetheless, if you must an absolutely flawless copy then do not buy this LP. Really, I think this is a very fine collector’s copy.
