Threat to Creation is an important record, and not just for the historical value of the post-punk supergroup that came together to make it, or the fact that the record carries roots in Adrian Sherwood’s future ventures in electronic music. It’s a sublime listening experience and a profound statement about the power of experimentation, and over forty years after the fact it still sounds shockingly new!
New Age Steppers were a dub collective, formed by producer Adrian Sherwood and featuring members of various prominent 1970s post-punk groups, including Ari Up and Viv Albertine of the Slits, Mark Stewart and Bruce Smith of The Pop Group, Keith Levene of Public Image Ltd, John Waddington of Rip Rig + Panic and Vicky Aspinall of The Raincoats. Other musicians included associates of Sherwood's On-U Sound label, including George Oban, Style Scott, and Eskimo Fox.
Creation Rebel, which had started its existence as the backing group for mystical dub pioneer Prince Far I.
