Description
Hello, I am a long-time eBay seller - since October, 1999. I have a 100% feedback record, so bid and buy with confidence. I have collected records for many years and every record I offer comes from my personal collection. The grade I specify for the vinyl is based upon a playback as well as a visual inspection. The grade I assign for the cover and inserts (if any) is based upon a close visual inspection. My grading standards are conservative - I believe that it does no one any good to inflate the grade of the record only to have the buyer be disappointed upon receipt and wish to return it. I offer a full, no-questions-asked return policy on every record I sell except in very rare circumstances. In those rare cases, I clearly state the condition of the record and explain why I cannot accept a return on it.
For sale today is a great copy of the Wheels of Fire album by Cream issued in 1968. What makes this album very special is that it is in the mono format as a United States release. Mono was being phased out starting in 1967 and by the time Wheels of Fire was released in 1968, the mono format was virtually extinct. Indeed, Cream's Wheel of Fire album was only issued in the US in mono as a special white label DJ promo, sent to radio stations for play on the AM bandwidth. Needless to say, it is very, very difficult to find this album.
As to condition, the vinyl conservatively looks VG+ to VG++ but plays Near Mint. Visually, there are marks and lines, and some light scratches, but none affect the sound and play. Indeed, I play-graded all four sides the day before making this eBay listing, and each sounds fantastic - full and clear with only the very rare pop or tick - hard to believe the album is 51 years old. I have found from experience that these 1960s albums produced by Atlantic survive the tests of time in surprisingly great shape, and this album fully meets my experience in this regard!
The outer cover is in VG++ condition. The silver foil cover, with its black, silver and white color scheme is sharp and clear, front and back. All corners are sharp and square. Spine is full and complete, no tears or splits. Only issue is some honest wear at the corners, and the very beginnings of ring wear on the back cover where the album sleeve pocket is located (see photos; this is a gatefold cover - no ring wear on the front cover).
The special white promo labels are in Mint shape - no marks, few, if any, spindle lines. The original inner sleeves are in conservative VG++ condition - only some fold at the lower corners where they were folded inside the album cover for many years (see photo).
Since I purchased this album years ago, I have stored the each of the two vinyl records in an archival inner sleeve, which I then placed in separate cardboard covers to best protect both the vinyl as well as the original outer sleeve (see photo).
All in all, a great example of this classic album by Cream! Thanks for looking.
