I purchased this album in the secondary market advertised as near mint vinyl with an excellent cover and following my own appraisal I agree with this. Following a light cleaning I played the album through the Grado’s and the sound was well within the near mint category (as a quick aside this might be my favorite Cream album and this mix tears front to back and I’m resisting the temptation to keep this for myself). Under bright light I could see a couple of faint hairline marks on the vinyl (I didn’t really see anything on the second album) however nothing I saw translated into the sound. Numerically I score the vinyl a 94. As for the cover I will score it excellent with a numerically rating of 80, which I think is the final number before very good plus which I consider a 79-75 (like a C+) and ultimately I feel this cover is better than that although it does have some issues. While there are no splits in the seams there is a fair amount of wear, most noticeably on the top left area of the front and rear gatefold (running across the letters ‘ORIGINAL’ in the top banner. The front cover has some light wear as well with a couple of small marks to the right of the letter ‘C’ in Recording. There is corner wear as well, most noticeably on the top left and bottom left where there are minor bumps. There is also some light wear within the back cover however most of the issues are blended into the artwork so it really isn’t as much of issues as it could be however upon a very close inspection this wear is visible. Finally while there are no splits on the spine the printing with the title and catalog number are positioned more on the back than the spine itself which I related partially to a factory issue and also to a storage issue as when looking at the cover straight there is a slight shift to the left. Regarding shipping the album is shipped within cardboard but with the vinyl outside of the jacket inside of a Whiplash record mailer. If you have any other questions please let me know.
