Description
" Country Style USA" was a 15 minute radio programme made by the US Army for recruiting purposes . The shows ran from 1957 to 1960 , each year 13 episodes were produced in Nashville and distributed to local radio stations . A guest would be featured each week , this record covers programme numbers 243 and 244 , with Johnny Cash and Glen Douglas respectively . Although Cash pretends to be playing live the three songs he "performs " are obvious Columbia recordings : "I Got stripes ", Swing Low ,Sweet Chariot " and " Five Feet High And Rising " . Cash also introduces Johnny Western who sings "Only The Lonely " , again it sounds like a studio recording . I don''t know much about Glen Douglas apart from the fact he co wrote "Home Of The Blues" , recorded by Cash while at Sun Records . Douglas opens up with the song on his show , later introducing a "young " Johnny TIllotson who sings "I Can't Help It " . I suspect again Douglas and Tillotson are not actually playing live . The record would be graded "very good plus" using the Goldmine classifications and comes in a plain white sleeve . The original cue sheet [see photo] has survived and will de sent with the record and lists the full schedules of both shows .
