This beautiful 10" LP from Philips (A 00660 R, German pressing, plum/silver Minigroove label – ED1, mono – no stereo editioin exists) features pianist Cor de Groot in a highly poetic rendition of Chopin's 24 Preludes Op, 28, warmly recorded in Amsterdam on 13 February 1951.
Cor de Groot was a splendid pianist and is an artist whose recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc. He was a splendid pianist across a broad range of repertoire and his entire discography is rewarding and worthy of investigating.
The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes (uncredited), printed in German only. The lovely cover art is similarly uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. Really, this is close to NM. There is minor bumping at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. If you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
