Artist Biography:

Coolio (born Artis Leon Ivey Jr. on August 1, 1963) is an American rapper, actor, and record producer. He is best known for his 1995 Grammy Award-winning single "Gangsta's Paradise", as well as his collaborations with other artists such as Stevie Wonder, WC, and 40 Thevz.

Coolio was born in Compton, California, and grew up in a single-parent household. He began rapping in the early 1980s and released his debut album, It Takes a Thief, in 1994. The album was a commercial success, spawning the hit single "Fantastic Voyage".

Gangsta's Paradise, Coolio's second album, was released in 1995. The album was an even bigger success than its predecessor, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over two million copies in the United States. The title track, a sample of Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise", was a massive global hit, spending three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

Coolio continued to release music throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, but none of his subsequent albums were as successful as Gangsta's Paradise. He also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as Dangerous Minds (1995), Get Shorty (1995), and Batman & Robin (1997).

In recent years, Coolio has continued to perform and record music. He has also appeared in several reality TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Wife Swap.

Coolio is one of the most iconic and influential rappers of all time. His music has had a major impact on hip hop culture, and his hit single "Gangsta's Paradise" is widely considered to be one of the greatest rap songs ever made.
