HMV “In a Persian Garden” – Complete Album Set of Early Single-Sided 78rpm Records

A scarce and attractive early His Master’s Voice (HMV) album set of “In a Persian Garden”, Liza Lehmann’s celebrated song cycle based on Edward FitzGerald’s translation of the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.

This original presentation album contains 8 shellac 78rpm records (7 x 12-inch and 1 x 10-inch), all housed in the original illustrated album with accompanying printed inserts, lyrics and artwork. The records feature performances by notable early 20th-century artists including Agnes Nicholls, Edna Thornton, Hubert Eisdell and George Baker.

The album retains its original decorative pages and explanatory booklet material, providing an excellent example of an early HMV deluxe issue from the 1920s. The records are single-sided pressings with embossed reverse trademarks and original HMV labels.

Condition:
Original album present with signs of age-related wear, foxing, creasing and some edge damage to pages. Records appear visually good with no obvious cracks noted, though they have not been play-tested. Please refer to photographs for overall condition.

An increasingly difficult complete set to find, particularly with the original album and inserts intact. An appealing item for collectors of early gramophone records, HMV memorabilia, vocal music, and Omar Khayyám-related material.
