Description

Two towering works from the incredible, timeless 4AD label, one of the great periods in the expansion of alternative pop. This months Mojo magazine pays tribute to the Cocteau Twins by noting that from fans like Prince to Jeff Buckley their influence is stamped on every 'shoegaze, dream pop and chillwave combo alive or dead, and is more widespread than ever'. They redefined electro pop and are still utterly unique, 4AD's in-house deisgn team 23 Envelope also helped define an image of cold cool that still resonates when holding the sleeves. The same can be said for This Mortal Coil - a supergroup of sorts, but the 4AD website explains it was less a band and more a  "unique collaboration of musicians recording in various permutations, the brainchild of 4AD kingpin Ivo Watts-Russell. The idea was to allow artists the creative freedom to record material outside of the realm of what was expected of them; it also created the opportunity for innovative cover versions of songs personal to Ivo. Named after a song by the '60s band Fever Tree, Filigree And Shadow was intended from the start as a double album. As before, he drew on a large pool of musicians - Simon Raymonde made important contributions, as did members of Colourbox, Dif Juz and The Wolfgang Press - but this time the bulk of the vocalists came from outside 4AD's orbit. The selection of cover versions included material by Tim Buckley, Gene Clark, Tom Rapp, Judy Collins and Colin Newman". It is a bleak, haunting masterpiece from a label that remarkably excelled at same
Both UK originals:   This Mortal Coil EX/NM , luminous shine, played a handful of times only
Cocteau Twins VG+/VG+ , plays perfectly but has been played, well cared for, hairlines and handling marks evident under strong light only.

Hassle free returns and money back, if you are unhappy in any way please email me,  I try my best to list accurately, cheers!

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

NM: Played a handful of times, several of the faintest hairlines only, perfect sound, full gloss and sheen, cover near new in every way.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, tiniest dusting of superficial hairlines only, playback excellent. The cover and packaging might have very slight wear/most minor cosmetic wear only.

VERY GOOD+: Perfectly acceptable, plays with no skips or jumps, no feelable marks, hairlines, and other superficial scratches may be evident on the vinyl but sound quality and fidelity still excellent, may have the odd pop and crackle only. Cover will have normal wear, seams and corners in tact, some age deterioration.

VERY GOOD:The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, some may be feelable but will not sound in repeat-tic manner. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable, may have minor seam or other tears but still acceptable integrity.

GOOD:The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and feelable scratches that may tic or jump. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR:The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, jump etc. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced. Collector piece only.
