There are some dynamite songs on this album, originally recorded in 1956 but... according to the Trip Record label, "This and other albums in the TRIP '5500' series have been re-issussued because of their lasting interest and value in our jazz heritage..  Except for advances in the technical equipment in master-cutting and vinyl pressing, we have kept as close as possible to the original productions.  to the record collector, who may remember the original recordings, and to those record fans whose interest in jazz may have only been sparked in recent years, we hope you will enjoy many of these re-issues of some really great jazz sounds."
Need I say more.  Well, I can add just a line or two from writer, Gregg Hall who has written, "This particular album brings to the fore, the genius of Theodore Walter 'Sonny' Rollins, who took over the spot left vacant by Harold land in 1955.  Sonny was a mere 26 years of age when this session was recorded, a native of new York, former student of the new York School of Music.  After an unsuccessful attempt at the piano, then alto sax, he took up the tenor in 1946, and several years later began working with then bop vocalist Babs Gonzales.  In 1949, he joined Art Blakey.  In 1950, stints with Tadd Dameron and Bud Powell led to his association with Miles Davis in 1951.  Sonny has since been acclaimed by esteemed musicians Thelonius Monk and Art Farmer as the most fluent and inspired of modern tenor men.  The music in this entire set owes a lot to the late Richie Powell, who as you may know was killed in an auto accident with the co-leader of this date, the late Clifford Brown.  Richie is not only the pianist but the arranger on most performances.  The drum solos of max Roach and the incredibly proficient trumpet stylings of Clifford Brown are without mention, prominent features througout the album.  However, the L.P.'s strongest addition to those previous is tenorist, Sonny Rollins.  Together the quintet provides you, the listener, with such a degree of intergration and spirit.  Thus, Clifford Brown and Max Roach's most effective picture."
