INFO :  One of the more difficult albums in the Vertigo 'swirl' catalogue to find. This bluesy-prog power trio were just kids when they recorded this self-titled album in 1972 and now  referred to as a lost classic'. They deliver an edgy, metallic sound undercut by bluesy rhythms and hoarse vocals that give the music a very slight punk flavour. Fans of Steamhammer and The Groundhogs may dig this, especially in the album's 18 minute long opener 'Journey To The Centre Of The Sky' which assaults the listener with a barrage of buzzing riffs and tribal drumming and, most importantly, never gets dull despite it's epic length. The shorter, sharper, more melodic songs that fill out the second-half of the album, such as the catchy 'You Mystify' and 'Tools Of My Trade', bring a touch of funk into the equation, again with John Simms brazen guitars pushed to the fore. A nice little bonus here is the understated artwork from Roger Dean (one of his earliest pieces) ... a pity the band never ventured into a studio again for 2 decades and one ponders what if?

VINYL : A barely played 160g platter that sails along sweetly with full shine, no lead in-out noise, no pops or skips and simply crystal clear throughout. Rated a strong EX+ easily.

LABELS :  A few age-spots on the white B-side. Otherwise clean as per photos above. 

 SLEEVE : Showing its years somewhat having accumulated ring-wear, edge wear, stains from old price tags and general ageing. No writing or splits and around the VG to VG+ mark.
