Chinese Instrumental Recording On the Columbia Phonograph Co.label.released circa year 1902 .
Catalogue #2174 I have trawled the Internet to find any more information on this recording or about this record unfortunately have not managed to find another copy of it out there as such at this time ! ThoughI’m sure there are a few collectors out there that will know what they’re looking at .it is a Chinese disk issued in late 1902 , As you can see from the photographs there is the date patented November 25, 1902 which is usually where the run out groovers and on the label itself it is patented May 4, 1886 and December 10, 1901 other than the words Columbia photograph company and the number 217 for the rest of the writing on the label would appear to me to be in Chinese. I’m listening back to the song I would say it is played with traditional stringed instruments of that period in China with some horns as well if my ear doesn’t deceive me .there is some damage to the edge of the disc with a couple of chips and I’ve tried to include in one of the photographs there is some wear or damage to the surface at the very end of the record literally on the last few bars of the song before the run out Area. The sound quality for these few rotations does get very poor but with a new steel needle it plays all the way through okay.
Generally speaking the rest of the song and playback and sound reproduction of it is remarkably clear and quite good for its age and condition.
Condition is “Used”. Dispatched with Royal Mail special delivery
The disc will be wrapped in a pizza box style mailer in a hardcard sleeve taped in place in a cut out cardboard stiffener with up to 10 cardboard stiffeners to protect it and then it will be secondly wrapped in another box with lots of bubble wrap to prevent any pressure or damage on it while in transit.
