Description
For your consideration, an extremely rare Mono, White Label Promo copy of Child Is Father to the Man (Columbia CS 9619) by Blood, Sweat & Tears:
- White label promo – a special pressing of Child Is Father to the Man specifically for radio-station or other promotional use
- Distributed by the Columbia Records Radio Station Service/Not for Resale
- Special Mono Radio Station Copy: NOT stereo; intended for AM radio stations that only broadcast music in mono. (Monaural records were phased out in the U.S. in 1968, the year this album was released.)
- A large white label (approx. 11” x 3”) is affixed to the cover with the track listing. (These labels allowed radio station program directors or individual DJs to indicate the most desirable cuts for the station’s format.)
Per rarerecords.net: “…the white label promo pressings are usually pressed before the commercial copies, in order to get them to the radio stations prior to the commercial release date. That means that the white label promo pressings are among the first records pressed from the stampers for a particular release, which generally means they may sound better than their stock counterparts. Stampers wear out over time due to friction, and the last record pressed from a particular stamper generally will not sound as good as the first one pressed. White label promo copies are desirable to collectors and audiophiles simply because they often sound better.”
Condition:
Record (Vinyl): Excellent Plus (EX+) Visual inspection under a strong light shows the surfaces to be clean and shiny. Several extremely-light surface scratches are visible, likely caused by the paper sleeve (it’s unlikely these will affect the sound). Note: This record may never have been played. The round white labels in the center of each side of the record are in pristine condition.
Jacket (Cover): Very Good Plus (VG+)
Front cover: ring wear; hairline crease in lower right corner (please see photos).
Front cover large white label with track listing: two small sections of the label are damaged/missing, in the extreme upper right and lower left corners (please see photos).
Back cover: nearly flawless (please see photo).
Edges: Very slight/light edge wear.
Note: This record was purchased approx. 15 years ago. Since then, the jacket and record have been stored separately, using Bags Unlimited collection protection products.
