Description
Although released in 1969 in its original stereo, the quadraphonic version was released in 1974. The quadraphonic format is SQ Matrix on Columbia Records and can be played without any issues on regular stereo equipment. Often, the quadraphonic version might have slight differences than the stereo version, too. If you have a Dolby Surround system, you can also use it to decode this album.
This is a double album - two vinyl records.
It's an original quadraphonic pressing and I have been the sole owner of this copy. It may have been played a total of 3-4 times since purchasing this in 1974, so the vinyl is in near mint condition. It has always been played in high-end equipment. The records have always been stored in vinyl lined paper sleeves and, as you can see from the discoloring, the sleeves are the originals I purchased. There are also the two original paper sleeves that the records came in
The cardboard cover is gatefold, so it opens to reveal photos and some liner notes. It shows some shelf wear due to its age. The spine is not split, although there is a slight split at one of the two openings. This has always been in smoke-free homes.
This is the first album by the band who would later be known as just "Chicago" and the style is considered pop and jazz rock. Chicago Transit Authority spawned several successful singles, including Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? / Listen, Questions 67 And 68 and Beginnings / I'm A Man.
The album stayed on the Billboard chart for 171 weeks, beating the previous record for a rock album's longevity of 155 weeks and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). For this inaugural recording effort, the group was nominated for a Grammy Award for 1969 Best New Artist of the Year. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.
You're not going to find a better copy of this album anywhere. Copies this nice are selling for upwards of $150 on Discogs.
