Muddy Waters was an American blues musician and considered by many to be a founder of the modern Chicago Blues style. A powerful inspiration in the emergence of the electric blues oriented groups in the UK during the 60s.
On Morganfield's marriage license & musician's Union Card he indicates the year of his birth as 1913. His place of birth was, in fact, in Issaquena County near Rolling Fork. However, his gravestone remains dated as 1915.
As with much of the blues genre, innuendo played an important role in lyrical interpretation. The term 'muddy waters' could be construed as an oblique reference to NSU. Such reference perhaps picked up on the Cream album: Cream (2) - Fresh Cream.
Chess Records was an American record company, founded in 1950 in Chicago and specializing in blues and rhythm and blues. Over time it expanded into soul music, gospel music, early rock and roll, and occasional jazz and comedy recordings, released on the Chess, Checker, Argo, and Cadet labels. The Chess catalogue is currently owned by Universal Music Group and managed by Geffen Records.
Founded and run by Jewish immigrant brothers from Poland, Leonard and Phil Chess, the company produced and released many singles and albums regarded as central to the rock music canon. The musician and critic Cub Koda described Chess as "America's greatest blues label."[1]
Chess was based at several different locations on the south side of Chicago, initially at two different locations on South Cottage Grove Ave.[2] The most famous location was 2120 S. Michigan Avenue from around 1956 to 1965, immortalized by the Rolling Stones in "2120 South Michigan Avenue", an instrumental recorded there during the group's first U.S. tour in 1964. The Stones recorded at Chess Studios on two more occasions. The building is now the home of Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven Foundation.[3] In the mid-1960s, Chess relocated to a much larger building, at 320 E. 21st Street, the label's final home.
Cover: Excellent (Many would grade this Near Mint, I grade conservatively. So shiny on the front, as you can see in my first picture, I had to hold my digital at an angle. Just has a few tiny age spots on the back, please use your ZOOM feature to try and see them better, Thank You)
Vinyl: Strong VG (Has several light scratches that did cause any skipping on my two turntables. In my humble opinion, many of these scratches were the result of not having an Innersleeve. It definitely has one now!)
