Charlie Parker / Dizzy Gillespie "Bird And Diz" 1952
RARE Mercury Records (MG C-512), Mono, David Stone Martin
Drawing on separate sessions from 1949 and 1950 and released in early 1952, Bird And Diz has earned its undeniable longevity and acclaim, thanks in large part to the curatorial muscle of Norman Granz. But it was the musicians who, at any rate, would prove the legendary impresario's point: get the best musicians on the best compositions. Accompanying Parker and Gillespie are: Thelonious Monk, piano; Curly Russell, bass; and Buddy Rich, drums. Original David Stone Martin cover. This record is in VG- condition, with a very light webbing pattern of hairline scratches on the vinyl. However, we have played this record through, and surface noise is minimal, with no skips or breaks. The cover is peeling away slightly on the upper edge and shows some light foxing. Be wary also of the word "Milt" written in blue ink on the back cover. (See pictures above for more details.)TRACK LISTING:
