Description

Up for auction is a true jazz treasure, the 1985 Mosaic Records limited edition box set, The Complete Candid Recordings of Charles Mingus (MR4-111). This definitive collection gathers all of Mingus’s essential 1960 sessions for the Candid label, featuring brilliant performances from legends like Eric Dolphy, Dannie Richmond, and Ted Curson.

This set is an original 1985 pressing and a collector’s dream. Each disc was mastered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder, "MASTER BY VANGELDER" stamp found in the dead wax. What makes this particular copy exceptionally rare is its provenance; rather than standard sequential numbering, this set is a presentation copy inscribed "Linda Allen," making it a unique one-of-a-kind artifact in the history of the label. In addition to the LPs, this set includes the comprehensive original session booklet and a rare "Mosaic Records erratum" note acknowledging that the labels on the first disc were reversed during manufacturing. Having these original inserts adds significant value and confirms the complete history of this set.
