Chain-Toward The Blues 1974 Aust LP first Pressing. Described by Ian MacFarlane in Freedom Train as 'one of the greatest blues albums ever issued in Australia.' I would argue this is one of the greatest progressive blues albums of all time.  This is a very rare original pressing. All early pressings came with a gatefold sleeve and the catalogue # SINL-934295 while later copies were L-34295, and mostly in a non-gatefold sleeve. A printing error occurred initially where the negative for the band photo within the gatefold was reversed and the band all appeared to be playing left-handed. Only the first several hundred copies were released this way before the fault was corrected. Interestingly the first copies released on CD had a photo of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee inside the front insert before rectification and initial copies of the 30th anniversary CD reissue had an extra 's' put in the title making it 'towards' rather than 'toward' the blues (again it was fixed after the initial pressing). This is one of the rare left handed copies. This album featured the celebrated 'Black'N'Blue' lineup of the band with Phil Manning, Matt Taylor, Barry 'Big Goose' Sullivan and Barry 'Little Goose' Harvey and songs which have become staples of the bands live set such as their #1 hit 'Black and Blue' and 'Boogie', '32-20 Blues' and 'Grab A Snatch and Hold It'. The Infinity label was Australia's homegrown 70's progressive label, set up by Festival in 1971 it was the Aussie equivalent of Harvest or Vertigo. Chain were among the first releases on the label. The album reached #6 on Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart. In October 2010, it was listed in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums. This most celebrated lineup reformed from 1982 until 1986 and has been performing together again since 1995 but with Dirk Dubois on bass instead of (the now late) Barry Big Goose Sullivan. The two gooses were reunited shortly before BG's passing in the Brisbane based blues band Brother Goose.

Lable:Infinity Cat# SINL-934295. Record is visually VG- with lots of surface marks but nothing deep. Cover is VG+. There is very light general and edge wear.  There is a just the hint of ring wear showing on the back. The inner gatefold is Ex with no marks or deterioration and it is this unique gatefold which makes this copy collectable. The glue is just starting to lift on the top seam. (see scans)
