Description

This is the rare original mono pressing of Cecil Taylor Conquistador on Blue Note BLP 4260. Blue Note provided special promo-only mono pressings to radio stations that had not yet converted to stereo transmission. There are seventeen such special issues, of which BLP 4260 is one. (Collectors can learn more about these pressings and the entire Blue Note catalogue of original issues by contacting the Jazz Record Center. A guide to identifying Blue Note original pressings is to be published later this year. You can be put on the mailing list to be notified when the book is available.) The labels are blue and white Liberty, with a mono catalogue number. The playing surface is in near-new condition, with a high luster; there is an inaudible hairline mark at the beginning of Side 2. The front cover has a mono sticker that obscures the word "stereo"; otherwise, the cover is identical to that of the standard commercial pressing. This cover is bright and clean throughout; 1" clean break at the center of the bottom seam; two small chips on the spine; 2" wear on the top and bottom seams, at the spine; ½" wear on the bottom seam, at the opening. Personnel includes Bill Dixon, Jimmy Lyons, Henry Grimes, and Andrew Cyrille.
