Description
On offer here is a copy of Mona Bone Jakon by Cat Stevens, released in 1970 on the Pink Island label catalogue number ILPS 9118.
This was Cat Stevens third album after a prolonged quiet period, and what a really nice album this is, with tracks like Lady D'Arbanville, Katmandu (with Peter Gabriel on Flute), Lillywhite and more. A very lyrical gentle album, one of his best.
The fragile single unlaminated sleeve made by MacNeill Press is in Excellent condition, with light shelfwear on the bottom and top edges but has no rips or tears (please see photo).
This copy has the very rare lyric inner, correctly dated as 03/70, and is in excellent condition with a little discoloration at the top, and a 2" split at the bottom, this could be invisibly repaired.
The vinyl has a shine to both sides with a light scuff on the first track and a few very light hairlines, probably caused by removal from the inner.
I have played this album all the way through on my system (J A Michell Gyrodek, SME Series IV arm with Dynavector Moving Coil cartridge, Naim Pre and Twin Mono Power Amps and B & W Nautilus speakers) and it has a clear powerful sound as you would expect from a first pressing. There are some pops in the first couple of tracks but these fade to nothing as the side moves on, overall rated Very Good Plus to Excellent.
The Pink "i" Island labels are clean with a few light spindle marks.
The matrix numbers are ILPS 9118 A2 11 with "STERLING RL LH" pressed on Side One, and ILPS 9118 B2 1 1 with "STIRLING LH" on Side Two.
The record will be sent outside of it's sleeve sandwiched between two 12" cardboard stiffeners in a polythene cover in a professional heavy duty record mailing envelope made by Covers 33, these are the type used by Record Mail Order companies.
