ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from Vox (PL 10.790, English pressing, black/silver microgroove label, mono, glossy laminated jacket) features Gaspar Cassadó's magnificent performances of 3 cello concertos – one each by the composers Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Boccherini, and Joseph Haydn, recorded during 11-13 September 1957 with conductor Jonel Perlea and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
The exact contents are as follows:
Vivaldi (arr. Cassado): Cello Concerto in E minor RV 409
(Note: Cassado arranged the Vivaldi "Concerto" from the fifth of the set of six Cello Sonatas published in Paris @ 1740)
Boccherini: Cello Concerto No. 9 in B-flat major G. 482
Haydn: Concerto for Cello No. 2 in D major Op. 101/H 7b No. 2
This is exalted cello playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the cello will find much to savor here – Cassado plays with great verve and poetry – wondeful!
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears almost as new – a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT and the playback is superb. The surfaces are not flawless (there are a few 'sounds' none of which rise to the level of a tic) and those requiring a perfect copy are advised to look elsewhere. Nonetheless, overall this is a very fine collector's copy.
