Description One of Three known Copies perhaps the ultimate Beefheart Rarity...Generic paper cleeve. metal acetate in EX shape...no obvious flaws. I havent played it at all. The provenance below wil be provided with the previous owners name added ( not visible on the scan) . Insurance is required for all outside of Sydney Australia postage unless it can be picked up in person. In the Inner west of Sydney
This was aquired from a collector of 60s Psych who decided to move and couldnt take his collection with him. The story goes....
" In early 1968 Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band briefly toured Europe at the instigation of John Peel. Peel had tirelessly promoted Beefheart ans the "Safe as Milk" album on his Perfumed Garden Radio 1 program. Beefheart brought with him the rough mix tapes for his forth coming 2nd LP "Strictly Personal". He allowed John Peel to share the tapes with friends at One Stop records, Londons finest record shop from 1966 to 1972. The tapes were taken to IBC Recording studios where three acetates were cut. One for Peel , One for One Stop and the third was given to me ( I was a regular customer and Beefheart fan) .It was a most generous gesture. I think I contributed 10GBP towards the cost.
Acetates are delicate so I only played the record once. Thrilled , I eagerly awaited the Blue Thumb release of Strictly Personal. Unfortunately , during Beefhearts absence, Blue thumbs owner/producer, Bob Krasnow remixed the tapes adding phasing & distortion. The released album, though I loved it , was a pale imitation of the original mix found on the acetate. I was disappointed, but many 60s LPs suffered such fates. In the 1990s the "Mirror Man Sessions" CD was issued. This sought to remedy the BLue Thumb mess. It is probably as close to Beefheart's favoured mix as we are ever likely to hear."
