Description
The Roland Rennie Collection
Coming up for the foreseeable future, is a record collection that is quite unique. It is the personal collection of the late great Mr. Roland Rennie who was the managing director at Polydor records in the UK during the 1960's and 1970's. There are some unique records, including 7 inch singles and LP's, along with Acetates, Demo's/Promo's and Factory sample records. Most are very early issues, if not the first to be produced. All of the main Polydor artists are present, including international and UK labels connected to Polydor.
In 1950, a young man named Roland Rennie joined EMI records in Hayes, Middlesex, UK. Roland quickly grew with the company and saw its success mushroom manyfold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
During his 12 years at EMI, he held many positions and eventually became the right hand man to EMI managing director, L.G. Wood in 1959, and was closely involved with major affiliation switches by major American firms. He oversaw the changes from British Decca to EMI and of Liberty and United records. His experience would put him in the top 6 of most knowledgeable executives in the industry at that time.
In 1962, Roland was a member of the team reponsible for the conception of the 'Stateside' label, which became the outlet in the UK and many other countries for: Scepter, Vee Jay, Diamond, Swan, Laurie; and a dozen other U.S. ensigns.
In addition, under instruction from Sir George Martin, Roland was also the person responsible for The Beatles' entrance onto the American stage, and was directly involved in negotations for them to appear on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time.
In 1965, he left EMI to take up the position of managing director at Polydor records in the UK, and directly oversaw the signings to the label of: The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Bee Gees, Sonny & Cher, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Otis Redding, The Drifters, Joe Tex, Patti and her Belles, Don Covay, Barbara Lewis and Soloman Burke, to name but a few.

Side 1 condition:
Side 1 plays through with no jumps or sticks. There is light some background noise here and there, during quieter sections, but the quality of the vinyl still remains generally free of background noise. 9/10.
The surface and shine of the vinyl is Excellent with very few light surface on the surface. 9/10
The Liberty label on side 1 is in excellent condition, 9/10, with very little surface wear and very few light spider trails around the centre hole.
Generally, the label is very pleasing to the eye but with no obvious fading. The printed text boldly stands out with no fading present.
Side 2 condition:
Side 2 plays through nicely with very little background noise and no sticks or jumps. The transition from each song is wonderful, this is why I love v8nyl more than ever other format. 9/10.
The excellent shine and surface of the vinyl on side 2 is equal to that as described on side 1. There are very few light marks or light lines and no deep scratches. 9/10
The Liberty label on side 2 with the Factory Sample - Not For Sale stamp is in excellent condition, again 9/10. There is very little discolouration or fading evident only with only some light wear around the centre hole. The text remains visually bold with no obvious fading.
The inner sleeve is in very good condition with a little fading, no tears, no seam splits, some creasing and some discolouration. 6/10.
The 'uncensored' outer sleeve (with 'Sterno' cups on the table) is in very good condition overall with no splits or tears. The front panel is clear of any major wear, but there are some light lines when looking closely under direct and strong light. Judging by their superficiality, i believe these light lines mostly orignate from when the album sleeve was removed from its slòt from within the collection.
The spine has a few creases and small cracks to the card, but the text reads perfectly. On the rear there is a bit of surface wear to the panel at the top and at the bottom but the track and credit listings read perfectly. . 6/10.
The rear panel shows a small amount of fading to the matt black panel, but the print is excellent. 5/10
