(CURTIS MAYFIELD &) THE IMPRESSIONS -- I'm So Proud / Never Let Me Go -- obscure, original early 1960's (?) U.S. 45 single. Basically this 45 shouldn't exist: it's not listed in any of the Impressions discographies. It features two excellent Northern Soul - R&B - Doo Wop style songs by the Impressions which were released separately in 1962 and 1964 on different singles on a different label (ABC/Paramount), but never appeared together, except on this 45. There was a very short-lived Angie Records label in the early 1960's that released a handful of Northern Soul - R&B numbers by the Laddins and Mar-Vels, but not this apparently -- and Angie 1003 is actually a completely different release by The Laddins, not The Impressions. So what the heck is this?? It's obviously old, 1960's vintage, and it doesn't appear to be a bootleg (and why bootleg these two particular songs? They're great but not The Impressions' biggest hits). Basically it's a big mystery -- and the only copy that's evidently ever surfaced of this oddity. In generic sleeve. Record: Good+ to VG-, light-to-moderate surface marks and surface wear, light surface noise; on Angie label, U.S. press.
