Hi, I am Mike, now 50 – yes the big FIVE-O! Old enough to remember the golden era of original, high quality music, bands, artists and television.

Also records from the 1960s and 70s bought from the shops from new, I have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 37 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and elusive items now. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, a couple more at weekends if time permits, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee one hundred percent is exact colour matching for covers - this depends on the lighting at the time and that is out of my control, but I feel sure most items will be very close to the actual real item. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. POSTING & PACKING: What You Get: All records are posted in professional mailers or boxes as deemed appropriate for the individual item with the record(s) REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. Records are posted with TWO (at least) massively thick stiffners for protection and also heavier protection if deemed necessary depending on the content. These stiffners are the thickest possible and custom supplied for ‘Oneadayrecords’ – these are NOT commercially available and you will not have seen thicker protection anywhere. The cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW heavy duty soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my Moth Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if possible. I never make profit on posting and offer probably the cheapest and safest shipping possible. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends, with total costs including ‘standard’ or ‘optional’ P&P. Label Conditions: All four look very similar and that is immaculate. Four of ripest, cleanest and most beautiful Plum labels I have seen for quite some considerable time. All look hardly even handled and judging by the condition of the two inners they came in, both hardly ever making the trip outside the cover. Spindle marks are very few and light indeed and ultra faint and only the closest scrutiny even reveals the traces present. If anyone owns or has seen these two rare original Atlantic records looking and sounding better than these, I sure would love to see them. (Please see label scans for all information needed and honestly, have you ever seen four more beautiful looking examples? I hope my high resolution uploads do them justice, with broadband these are now capable of looking at their best on Ebay without the noise and blurriness of the past.)

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 130 / 116 grams. [These days, many modern Audiophile reissues are pressed on super-heavyweight 180 gram vinyl. Only a small percentage of ‘vintage vinyl’ was ever pressed this heavy. Records pressed in the 1960s averaged around 140 to 150 grams. Records pressed in the 1970s were usually lighter and averaged more around 115 – 125 grams. Some records pressed around 1973 were very thin and light due an oil crisis and shortage around this time. Some records were even issued on recycled vinyl from this period and sounded poor with crackle and surface noise evident from the very first play. If any record I buy is deemed ‘recycled’, I will never offer it, I have a very simple test to detect these records if I suspect this to be the case other than audible imperfection. Some records from this period were even pressed on other materials the most notable was ‘Dynaflex’, used by RCA around this time. Although inferior to vinyl, this at least mostly sounded reasonably acceptable but pressings on this material were wafer thin and flimsy. Beyond the 70s, records often became thinner and lighter still but most played fine but were never quite the quality as from the ‘Golden Era’]. (This was based on ‘average’ weights for 20 records from these eras. Later pressings were usually lighter still).

Rarity: Rare, the price guides on this album are laughable quoting the same value as Deja vu on the same label which is way WAY easier to find. I have seen at least 50 (at least) copies of that album on Plum to every one of these and that is no exaggeration. This was a late Plum issue and very seldom found with these original labels. Not only that, this copy includes the very elusive E. J. Day UK made cover. This sometimes has the imported US-made cover instead and the British sleeve is again much harder to find. With two records that have clearly hardly ever been played and both looking practically as new with sound to match, this set will prove incredibly difficult to find like this again. The elusive large lyric insert is also included in supreme condition and the cover, a very difficult one for not attracting heavy ringwear is also in very clean condition. Even the two polylined Polydor inners are almost as new. More details on all below.

Brief Artist & Album Info: I consider this classic double live set to be one of the rarest albums on this highly collectable label, it’s only the second one I have ever had one to offer, and the first with the genuine original E. J. Day made UK sleeve with the 2657 004 deluxe number. This is a somewhat unusual cover inasmuch the outside is smooth finished and unlaminated but the inside of the gatefold is textured and made from a very type of card that is pasted atop two internal flipbacks. Also unusual that the cover has no track listings hence the inclusion of the single folded large format lyric insert. Musically this is a brilliant set: Young arguably dominates with stunning redentions of early favourites but includes no new material from him. The only unissued songs is by Crosby and Nash. An album of two halfs, one acoustic, one electric. On the ‘plugged-in’ record, we are treated to an extended version of Young’s masterpiece, ‘Southern Man’, clocking in at over thirteen minutes on which he jams with Stills with awesome effect. All four members are in fine voice and form, and all get their ‘solo’ spots. A great live set and recording, all the atmosphere is captured brilliantly with clear distinct sound. This lovely plum copy gives a stunning, little short of remarkable account of the event also. Both the records could easily pass for new and no marks or blemishes worthy of note and sound quality is pristine for the whole album duration. All four sides play with no unwanted sounds, even the quiet passages are silent and better sound values for this title will never be found and that is a promise. This will never be an easy one to find and it will never be heard better than this, both records are reference standard for looks and sound. All fans of CSNY and Plum collectors needing this highly elusive UK made copy will be delighted with this I am sure, nothing could have beaten the experience of being in the audience but this classic double sets almost certainly will be the next best thing.

Cover Grade and Format: EX+, a gatefold format, and unlaminated making it very prone to wear especially with the dark finish. The inside is textured and made with very different card, this is somewhat unusual. This was printed and made in England by the E. J. Day Group and this British-made cover is even rarer than the plum records. The original large format single-folded lyric insert is also included as are the two polylined inners.

Cover Front: This front, given its wear-prone disposition is in lovely condition and my pictures hardly to it real justice with the flash over-emphasising any mild rubbing apart from the right centre edge area. There a a couple of blemishes: a pressmark near the top and bottom edges towards the right. Parallel lines which I am certain was caused in manufacture with a resulting small rub near them on the right edge. These fine but dead straight lines can be felt inside and outside the cover and I have seen similar blemishes before on other covers, I feel sure caused by a print-finishing gripper or similar when being printed or constructed. Hardly anything major and with little else to fault bar minor surface rubs this front is exceptional really. No creasing worthy of note and devoid of ringwear which is always great news on such double sets. This elusive cover front will prove difficult to find much better.

Cover Back: This side in in superb condition with just a small bottom right corner rub being the only minor blemish. Even better than the front this is practically rub free and not even a trace of ring wear or even a press mark. Try to find this better.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Pristine mint as made, the surfaces are moderately textured and very different to the outer sides. What a stunning inner this is.

Top Edges: Very light surface rubs only, front right corner has rubbed.

Bottom Edges: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with barely a trace of wear and no feathering. Records enter on right outside edges.

Spine and Text: A wonderful, near wear-free spine: Solid and thick, straight, uncompressed and square, both right edges meeting up neat together. All text is perfect and unworn and the entire surface shows hardly any rubbing at all which will prove more than unusual.

Corners: Very little rubbing on the spine pair and on the right back two either. The front right corners have rubbed as have the edge areas on the front as mentioned above. All retain fine shape and definition.

Cover Summary: A very strong all round example of this fragile early 70’s cover, one that could prove very difficult to find much better, finding a UK-made original will prove hard enough initself. This attractive item should please most realistic collectors.

The Lyric Insert: Mint as new with a pristine neat original fold and made in England printed bottom right and also including the 2675004 number hence a genuine original. Spotlessly clean, fresh and uncreased with razor-sharp edges.

The Inners: Both immaculate with pristine clear windows and no edge splits. Incredible whiteness is retained with no creasing and the lack of gum darkening is unusual. The inners alone tell their story, both records have hardly been removed from them and both look little handled.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: I am always very reluctant to use the word ‘Mint’ on any record that has been played but anything less than a Mint grading for these two records would not be doing them full justice. ‘Mint’ is still the most over-used and abused word in record selling but my regular buyers will know I only use the word when the records merit it and this pair more than merit it. These two records are in almost unbelievable condition, a pair time has forgotten and what a find. There is barely a mark or blemish worthy of mention and both play as good as they look. Very clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed, probably played once only and in world-class condition with labels to match (take another look please). I can promise most sincerely, these two pristine plums will never be beaten.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: These amazing records play up to their immaculate visual conditions with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and a detailed live recording. Devoid of surface sounds even on the quiet passages and no pops or clicks were noted. This was an immensly enjoyable play-grade from start to finish and the pleasure of these records is not confined just their incredible looks. Both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure these records have been played very lightly and have been generally well stored and looked after, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing whatsoever spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this rare Plum classic. The vocal harmonies are pin-sharp and fully focused with no clipping or sibilence, this is as good as it gets without actually being there. These records will prove impossible to find better and are unreservedly recommended to everyone.

End Piece: One of my best finds of 2008, these four men made great music together, the complex vocal harmonies were totally sublime and this record captures all what was good about this often uneasy alliance. Many of their finest songs are included and some have unique arrangements within this set. When such delicate albums sound this good on an original vinyl pressing, its has to be a thing of great beauty and this is exactly what these records are, a pair of plums for the connoisseur – DO NOT LOSE THIS ONE.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
