Label Conditions: Both immaculate and age-defying. Ultra clean, fresh and highly attractive with any of the tiny few spindle traces super light, fine and faint and no wear around the hole area. This stunning original album appears hardly even played, reitterated by sound of the same beautiful quality.

Brief Info: An English pop singer largely of the 1960s, this his first, and only album made on Decca, it includes two UK hit singles in ‘You Were on My Mind’ and ‘The Pied Piper’, plus two others that failed to chart. He is backed by quality musicians that includes a cover-credited Jimmy Page, later of Led Zeppelin of course. This a superb album and copy, finding this better could prove nigh-on impossible and one of the earliest ever pressed. A gem for 1960s collectors and a likely ultimate upgrade, this one seldom surfaces and hardly even even close to this.

Cover Grade and Format: MINT(–): a single format with Clarifoil front laminate. The back has the rarer twin top and bottom flipbacks, the majority of Decca covers omitted them. The main back panel is unlaminated, matt and smooth. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press and includes the original inner sleeve.

Lamination & Front: This front practically reminds of new: any blemishes are minuscule. Very shiny, fresh and clear, there is barely even a trace of dulling or rim impression, this also with very thin card. No lifting, that a major plus, and any creasing very fine and light, any traces hardly register, the odd tiny edge one aside that few can hope to avoid at the very least. With a fantastic unaged graphic and card, this front could prove near impossible to fine better.

Cover Back: Equally impressive and totally unaged. A tiny (and I do mean tiny) tip lift on the bottom flipback, this hardly even shows. The unprotected panel clean and ultra fresh, barely even a trace of grubbiness. You will never see a better laminate end line on the spine, this has not even contracted or grubbied one iota, a trait near impossible to avoid. This must have been stored inside a darkened room or case and never handled. Both flipbacks are equally immaculate, clean and undamaged. The original price of 32-7 (£1.63) is seen in pencil near the top left corner, clearly this will easily remove, but I would never do this as it adds to the history of the piece.

Top Edge: Very thin and fragile, this is totally unworn, but not straight. Nothing can ever be totally perfect I guess, and this flimsy thin cover is not dead flat, and few Decca covers like this ever will be. Super thin card and unlifted laminate means the card will be forced, so when viewed end-on, they will appear not straight. But I must reitterate, the main card area front and back is NOT wavy or bowed to any degree, just the very ends.

Bottom Edge: As above but straighter.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Magnificent and also very straight. Clean, mostly very sharp with very little wear at all. Any thickening or burring minimal and ultra light as seen viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced, again, try to find better.

Spine and Text: Stunning and totally unworn and this reasonably straight as well. Solid with minimal compression, the ends are quite deeply pinched in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate. Also fresh and incredibly white, ultra smooth with no cracks at all.

Corners: All immaculate practically as new with fantastic nigh-on perfect shape retained. No rubbing or dinks.

Cover Summary: An exceptional example, one time has overlooked. An amazing all-round example of this scarce and very fragile 1960’s cover, one that will prove immensely difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: MINT(–): again in incredible condition and barely aged. This vintage Decca inner includes the date-code of 116 (printed in November 1966), and has two immaculate window circles, no creasing and the polylining clear and devoid of crinkle. Any discolouration as faint as likely to ever be seen and all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(–): a near remarkable original mono record, fast approaching 50-years-old. Clearly barely played or even removed from the cover, very clean with equally fine shine and very solidly pressed. Hardly any blemishes at all, even as viewed critically under bright angled light. If only all vintage records could be found like this, this should please all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality 1960s popular album plays up to it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few copies will match, outperform, or even probably exist better, and this very early pressing is magnificent. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly, barely even run-in in vinyl terms and has been beautifully and expertly stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. It will prove beyond difficult to find better and merits my highest possible recommendation.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
