CREEKSIDE

“Featuring Gary & Allen Porn”

(No label)       (No #)

Late 1970s

ONLY COPY OF THIS INSANELY RARE LP ON EBAY AS OF 6-11-2016

THE BUZZ:    OK.  There’s a bunch of us that LOVE oddball releases of varying genres, like punk, psychedelic, meth-metal, local country rock, obscure glam, Martian Blues (I made that up), private label rock releases, etc.

This LP is a definite qualifier for odd but it lives up to the term “quality” too (as we all know, many of these private releases are marginal and look better than they sound – NOT Creekside, though).   This LP is strangely compelling.  It is dreamy psych at times with lonesome harmonica driven angst and a real rural-cool feel.  Really.  It kinda reminds me of Ennio Morricone ripped on shrooms and lost out near the tank (Texas ranch talk for a pond for the livestock to drink from).  Like…. The Good, The Bad & The Wasted.

Plus, Creekside features (as it sez right on the cover and labels) Gary & Allen Porn.  I would never make fun of anyone’s surname, but I might question the idea of finding wide ranging showbiz success as Gary & Allen Porn.  Maybe it didn’t quite have the pop culture connotation then than it does today but I doubt it.  Nevertheless, I do understand being proud of your heritage and it is a gutsy though possibly questionable career move.  If you Porns are reading this, let me follow up very quickly by saying, you have talent.  I never played this LP, I just picked it up in 1980 when I was working at Trade-A-Tape & Record Shop in Boulder, Colorado in the “Sale Box by the Door” because I always picked up any private pressings.  I didn’t play it until today (36 years later) and I ended up burning a copy.  It’s been quite a while since I did that.

VALUE:  I did some research on this.  Actually, I did a lot of research, I just didn’t find much.  This is Creekside’s only release.  The Porn brothers seemed to fall off the face of the earth after the LP was recorded.  I can’t find a web page that is dedicated to them or their recording or career.  However, this LP occasionally surfaces and in the past 5 years, Popsike has sold copies for between $64 and $191.  Two other web record auction sites have sold it at $74 and $100.  I’m not saying it is worth that, it’s just what it sold for.  I mean, that’s not a $10K Beatles item but it’s not chump change, either.  As you know, my motto is “I want to sell it, not just  list it”, so I’m going for middle ground.  I’m gonna auction it starting at $55.  If there’s any of you hound dawgs who wanna bid it up into the vinylsphere, by all means, bid.  I’d like to get one of those new 707 horsepower Dodges and maybe this is my chance.  BTW, I've decided if this doesn't sell at least for the minimum $55, I'm going to throw myself in the river.

LAST THING:  There is no label or catalog number indicated anywhere on this piece.  In the dead wax,it says “Marvin A1” and “Marvin B”. Keith Marvin Chesson was the producer so that mystery is over quickly.  It also says “Miami Tape T”.  I’d guess that is the name or nickname of the outfit that pressed the vinyl.

LAST LAST THING:  Check the Porn brothers out.  These guys also have “the look”.  Like they belong either on an rock album cover or in a saloon in 1880 enjoying a “short one” after a hard day of killin’.  I like these guys.

Stored vertically in a smoke free environment for 36 years.

PS – If you are reading this and you are one of the Porn brothers, contact me through eBay and I’ll seriously think about retracting the auction and sending you the copy to autograph for my own collection.  Also, if today you guys are singing in the Praise Band down at the tavernackel, I want to know that too.  I know "good" when I hear "good".
