I will never compromise on quality, safe packaging – I NEVER use mailing envelopes that offer virtually no protection at all, and records WILL arrive damaged in them at some time as most record buyers will already know. Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. Label/Format: Liberty, original blue format with matt very gently textured surfaces.

Label Conditions: Two beautiful examples, both very clean, fresh and attractive with only a tiny few ultra light, fine and faint spindle traces on side two and barely any on side one. Another purchased new by one collector who put his records to tape, this stunning near mint record appears hardly eve played and sounds fantastic.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps or Lateral Movement: This record is not quite flat, the centre slightly raised, any arm movement during rotation gentle, light and minor when side one is played, I am certain it will cause no issues to any turntable and there are no unwanted audio sounds from this minor issue. Side two has barely any arm movement at all. My grading of the record based purely on its visual and playing conditions which are superb.

Rarity: Scarce on the blue label which was very soon to change to the black format. With the record (and cover) in this superb condition, this is quite rare.

Original Year of Release: 1969 in the United States, this UK example copyrighted 1970 on the labels.

Brief Info: The fourth CCR album and incredibly, the third issued in 1969. Another classic from a band at their height of popularity and creativity, it was issued just three months after ‘Green River’. It received highly favourable reviews from critics and it sold well and includes some of bands finest songs. This a barely played UK original and it sounds superb. The highly wear-prone, fragile cover also impressive, and seldom seen much better than this. One for fans and collectors to cherish.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: and arguably better still as both front and back are very impressive indeed with most rubbing on the perilous storage bottom edge, and even this mostly modestly light. A highly delicate and wear-prone single format with matt, textured surfaces. Printed and made in England on thin card by MacNeill Press Ltd, includes its original 1970 date-coded Philips style inner sleeve.

Cover Front: A cover that takes no prisoners for wear, few avoid often heavy rubbing, creasing and especially ugly ring wear that blights so many. Well, the really important areas of this one are superb and my grading I feel hardly does this one justice – judge yourself by my pictures. The front is highly impressive with probably the least wear I have seen for many years, if not ever. Just small corner tip rubs and the odd tiny tip crease, the mains areas are beautiful. Any rub traces away from the sides are minimal, very small and faint. And any creasing very little and fine mostly on the spine edge and few others at all, and none away from the very edges. The card is soft, very thin and textured, the lack of rubbing, sticker issues and especially ring wear, which usually affects both sides is the best news possible and few original cover fronts for this title will come close to even matching it.

Cover Back: Largely the same, if anything, even better with any creasing minimal and faint again. Let’s be honest: how many of these will not have deep penetrating ring wear or major rubbing? Cover protection for most of its time and due care has ensured this survived to such a high level. Possibly the freshest and most attractive example of this uncompromising cover I have yet seen.

Top Edge: Thin, but straight with only mostly light, patchy rubbing.

Bottom Edge: Light, patchy rubbing left of centre, to moderate, less patchy (towards the right). Still straight and neat. Being the traditional storage edge means this will rarely escape often heavy rubbing, with most even being threadbare, white and woolly. Given the facts, this has fared pretty well.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Mostly very sharp with any thickening minimal and very light. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal compression, the ends widely pinched in manufacture. The text is virtually unworn and well centred on the narrow depth. Just a mild hint of darkening of the white surface.

Corners: Tip rubbing or creasing (just one) quite light very to near excellent shape retained with no major dinks.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this challenging and fragile early 1970’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: only marked down for darkening of the paper and browning of the seam area adhesive that few really avoid totally. In terms of ‘usage’ wear, it has little. This Philips style inner has two as-made, undamaged window circles and the polylining still quite clear. The paper hardly creased and all edge folds naturally intact. This is British Patented with the numbers: 800513 & 973939. It includes the date-code 40 0970, or manufactured in September 1970.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): arguably better and very critically grade as such, this based purely on its superb visuals, any minimal issue with not being dead flat is mentioned and described above – be assured, this is a fantastic record that sounds the same. A beautiful visual original first issue that is ultra clean with equally superb shine and very olidly pressed. A copy appearing hardly played, and so typical from its source with any surface traces ultra light, wispy and incredibly faint as seen critically under bright light. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, barely anything even registers. Visually a gorgeous record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This CCR classic album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies will outperform this early first pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
