Creedence Clearwater Revival (often known as just CCR) were a Californian band who were said to play a form of southern rock called 'swamp rock'. Led by John Fogerty, they had an incredible run of hits at their peak, scoring nine Top 10 hits between 1969 and 1971.

Creedence had begun life in 1959 as The Blue Velvets and then The Golliwogs, without much success. In 1967 they changed their name, and the following year released a self-titled album Creedence Clearwater Revival, which featured a No.11 hit in “Suzie Q”. Follow-up Bayou Country went Top 10 and included the No.2 smash hit “Proud Mary”.

Their third album Green River (1969) was widely praised and spun two hit singles, “Bad Moon Rising” and “Green River”, both of which matched “Proud Mary” in reaching No.2. Willy and the Poor Boys was another hit with critics and fans, spawning two more No.5 singles. Their fifth album, Cosmo’s Factory (1970) topped the album charts and produced an incredible five Top.5 singles. There is much debate among fans and critics about which of these three albums is their best, with Cosmo’s Factory perhaps slightly edging it with most listeners.

After two more albums, the adventurous Pendulum (1970) and the disappointing Mardi Gras (1972), CCR broke up.

You should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever.

IN CONCERT - The Concert" has taken some hits through the years, but it is actually a really fine live album, featuring several of the group's best songs in tough, muscular renditions.
The sound is good, the songs are great, and there are virtually no weak moments here.
Some of the band's lesser-known album tracks, like "The Midnight Special", "Tombstone Shadow" and the spiritual-slash-rockabilly tune "Don't Look Now", are particularly enjoyable in this live setting, but the single hits work very well also, including "Proud Mary" and "Green River".
4 1/2 stars. Highly recommended.

There aren't very many recordings of the original Creedence live (though more have surfaced recently, such as the Woodstock show), so this one is really essential. It was originally titled "The Royal Albert Hall Concert", until Fantasy Records realized that the wrong tape had been used and that it was actually recorded in Oakland. The sound is raw and unpolished, like a garage band. Their performances are energetic and a bit fast at times. "Keep on Chooglin" in particular threatens to set the stage on fire. Most of the big hits (up to January 1970) are here

1. Born on the Bayou

2. Green River 3. Tombstone Shadow 4. Don't Look Now 5. Travelin' Band 6. Who'll Stop the Rain 7. Bad Moon Rising 8. Proud Mary 9. Fortunate Son 10. Commotion 11. Midnight Special 12. Night Time Is the Right Time 13. Down on the Corner 14. Keep on Chooglin'
