Best Of Cream.

1969 UK pressed Polydor Records stereo LP, 583 060.

Earliest red label label pressing, with early A2/B1 matrix suffixes.

Housed in fully laminated Ernest J. Day sleeve.

A really superbly preserved near mint LP in very near mint sleeve. This LP came from the collection of a fastidious and careful owner, who clearly had a sense of pride in keeping his collection in as immaculate a condition as was possible.

Vinyl in visually near mint condition. Just a very few spider trail marks are visible at centre spindle areas, but these are few and indicate just a few careful plays. Labels are bright and clean still and mostly free of any marks or wear. There is just a tad of residue from the result of a small paper cataloguing square being affixed to the top of the A side with a neat square of sellotape. This has actually now become detache from the label and attached to the inside of the inner sleeve. Damage from this is very unobtrusive and the label has not suffered tearing or loss.

Vinyl surfaces still have an as new gloss, and it is difficult to discern any marks at all. It takes a few attempts at angling the LP beneath a light source to detect just one very light and inconsequential paper sleeve removal scuff. Clearly an extremely carefully played and handled LP.

Playback is beautifully clean throughout. Not only does this very early press have a rich and punchy clarity without distortion or groove wear, it also plays without any background noise, crackle or ticks. Even the run-ins and band separators are silent. A tough one to upgrade in terms of playback.

Inner sleeve is white poly-lined and in excellent condition, very crisp and bright and without browning.

Fully laminated main sleeve is also in absolutely stunning condition. The glossy white front panel of this has much potential for picking up grubbiness, but this one is gleaming fresh and bright as if it just came off the production line, incredibly clean and tough to upgrade.

The highly reflective surfaces are difficult to capture in a photo, suffice to say this sleeve looks very much better and brighter "in the flesh".

No ringwear, and not even any hairline dinks or imperfections. The rear panel is simiarly rich in lustre and gloss still, and similarly unmarked, bar a very small penned digit to far top left corner. This is mostly in a dark area, and hardly detracts. Indeed it is not really visible unless one inspects the sleeve at very close quarters. Edges are razor sharp still, even at entry side, and without rubbing or chipping and the spine is in amazing condition. The tips are also in immaculate condition and without whitening or rubbing. Clearly a well stored and little handled sleeve.

All in all an exceptionally clean issue which should satisfy the most demanding of collectors. This will be really tough to upgrade.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
