COUSIN HERB HENSON & HIS TRADING POST SHOW -- Your Favorite Songs -- hard to find, original late 1950's U.S. album. "Cousin" Herb Henson was a pioneering figure in the history of Country, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and especially the famed "Bakersfield Sound," which he was instrumental in promoting through his mid-1950's "Trading Post" TV Show out of Bakersfield. The list of performers he supported and promoted reads like a Who's Who of 1950's & 1960's Honky Tonk & Country: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Spade Cooley, plus legends like Johnny Cash, Merle Travis, Ernest Tubb (hell, even a pre-teen Barbara Mandrell made her debut on the show!) Henson is also, ironically, a cousin to indie rock/alt country giant Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. Henson sadly died at the age of 38, and this wicked rare album, released on the local Tally label, is one of the few records he put out in his lifetime. Sound here is red hot Honky Tonk in a wild Maddox Bros. & Rose - Reno & Smiley style; his killer band features Roy Nichols (Maddox Bros., Lefty Frizzell), Al Brumley, Fuzzy Owen and Buck Owens' one-time wife Bonnie Owens. Lead-off track on Side One, "You'al Come," was also Henson's theme song for his TV show. See photo for track list. Cover: VG-, 3" split upper right corner, 2" split upper left spine, 3" split in middle of bottom seam, ring wear and creasing upper left corner, old price stickers upper right front. Record: Good-, Side One very clean with light surface wear; Side Two has moderate to heavy scratches on first 3 tracks which sound occasionally in the background, but still quite playable; small waffle in one spot at outer edge of vinyl (apparenly from printing defect) which doesn't affect play, on Tally label, U.S. press.
