Lovely copy of the original 1941 first ever album by Count Basie and his Orchestra, One O’Clock Jump, on Decca album 218. Original blue label pressing, most of which was recorded around 1938-39 with his classic band featuring Lester Young, Sweets Edison, and Buck Clayton, plus all the rest. This is one of the first releases to use the term “jump” to define the new trend in swing music that Basie and the other Kansas City acts were creating, with more blues stylings and a rhythmic approach that brought us one step closer to rock and roll. All six discs here are in quite lovely condition. I would say they are all E, with only very light superficial scuffing, except the title disc, One O’Clock Jump, which has just a touch more wear, about VG+. Still it looks great and plays just beautifully. An absolutely beautiful sounding set. The cover has some edgewear and quite a bit of corner wear, but the spine is fully intact and readable and the binding is strong. The wonderful graphic (later reused for an LP and CD) is bright and clear. This is truly a top copy, hard to come by in any condition!
