CONTINENTALS - i'm ready to get down 12" - amr AMR-G-1001
Wow! A 12 inch version (on the same AMR international label) of these two songs by the mysterious Continentals, already so hard to find on 45 but next to impossible to track down this edition, which contains two mixes that are slightly different from what's on the 7 inch. Both sides sound like the Fatback Band on a diet, a lo-fi late night club jam with funky vocals on top of sparse drum programming and just a sparse organ which changes key slightly during the course of the song. The likes of Theo Parrish would know how to use this in their sets. Not much is known about the group; the label was US based but with distribution all over Africa, and word is that the group was actually a bunch of Cameroonians and Nigerians in the USA.
