Description

COLUMBIA 33SX1637    VARIOUS    'Strike Up The Bard'

A curate's egg of an album, which can be divided up into two halves. Firstly this is a great UK big band jazz album of tunes on a Shakespearean them, featuring SHAKE KEANE (tp/fl-h)(-1), EDDIE BLAIR (tp)(-2) and KENNY BAKER (tp)(-3)  directed from the piano by KEN JONES. The second half is made up mainly of ELAINE DELMAR (-4) singing Shakespearean songs accompanied by various combinations of recorders and viols. This is a first UK mono pressing with the black/blue label and flipback cover.

TITLES: * Stan Tracey composition.

Side 1: 'Strike Up The Bard' (-1)/''St Valentine's Blues' (-4)/'Shake On A Barre' (-1)/'Live With Me And Be My Love' (-4)/'In A Stratford Garden' (-2)

Side 2: 'Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind' (-4)/'Nine For Bacon' (-2,3)/'Fye On Sinful Fantasy' (-4)/'Oxford Blue' (-1)/'Shall I Compare Thee' (-4)/'Puck'* (-3)

CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: The disc is E+toN- (VG++toM-) with a very few, very light scratches only, visible under a bright 'grading' light. The cover is E+ (VG++) with some very slight corner damage and a little surfsace dirt on the back - as usual along the edges of the flipbacks.

SORRY ABOUT PHOTOGRAPH - LIGHTING CONDITIONS  (AND MY PHOTOGRAPHY) NOT VERY GOOD!
