Description
The Ink Spots were an African-American pop vocal group who gained international fame in the 30's & 40's. Their unique musical style led to the rhythm & blues and rock & roll musical genres, and the subgenre doo-wop. In 1989 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The original member group disbanded in 1954 but since there have been what is called 2nd & 3rd generation Ink Spots groups. These 2 new generations though are legitimately known as the Ink Spots too. That's the background on the group, now for the details of my listing.
I contacted a website called InkspotsEvolution to get some info on this 45 record. According to them, & to quote, "I have seen only one other record like this on the KAL label. It was recorded between 1958-61 & is quite scarce. Being that it is autographed makes it a real find." This label was not their original label & being that this record was done after the breakup in '54 means that this was a 2nd generation Ink Spots group. Now for the autographs. Charlie Fuqua was a founding member of the original Ink Spots in 1934. Adriel McDonald was the last bass singer in the original group from 1951-54. The other 2 autographs, John Taylor & Abel DeCosta, joined later as part of the 2nd generation. Both these 2 member though were verified by the guy at the Ink Spots website as legitimate newer members & not just 2 guys touring later as "knock-offs" or reunion tour members. These 2 are not in the group as of the recording of this 45 record but as stated they are recognized as Ink Spots members. I guarantee the authenticity of these signatures. So much so that I'm giving a 14 day refund offer to give time to a buyer to authenticate the signatures. The Ink Spots webmaster stated that this piece being so rare on the KAL label plus having an original founder's signature (Charlie Fuqua) makes this item very valuable, even just for Fuqua's autograph alone. What a find this would be for a collector. I cannot verify the quality of the record itself although whether it plays or not really doesn't matter for this piece. Anyway, just in case, I am selling the record in "as is" condition. It did work & sound just fine the last time it was played many years ago. Don't really know why you would want to play it anyway. If any research is needed on any of this info before thinking of bidding on this please do so. I have it pretty well documented I think.
