Davis, who was eager to conduct, did not have an easy road, having sparse jobs from 1949 - 1957 where he received and assistant post with the BBC Scottish Sym Orch where e gained some renown, and added to his acclaim when he filled in for a performance of Don Giovanni at the Royal Festival Hall and for the Magic Flute at Glydenbourne for an ailing Thomas Beecham. He obtained a musical directorship of both the Sadler Wells and Royal Opera. He has guest conducted the Boston Sym, New York Philharmonic and many others. He also maintained a long relationship with the LSO and made many recordings with them.
Ruth Welting had a rich association with the Metropolitan Opera and was well known because she was one of the few sopranos able to sing the Mad Scene from Lucia in its original key
Palmer, Cotrubas, Johnson, and Grant are all Metropolitan Opera veterans, as is Robert Tear with the Royal Opera
