Up for sale are two rare BLUES LPs - C.J.'s ROOTS OF CHICAGO BLUES -- These fantastic compilations are HARD TO FIND, and both of them are in great condition.
Originally compiled by a young blues enthusiast, Cary Baker, the albums draw upon the archives of Chicago record producer and label owner Carl Jones, proprietor of such imprints as C.J., Firma, and Colt. When the first album was issued around 1970, it marked the first time any of this material had been on LP. Volume 1 used to be fairly hard to find, Volume 2 much more so (one reliable internet seller has a Mint copy of just Volume 2 currently priced at $100).
The vinyl on both of these is in superb shape. I would give a slight edge to Vol 1, but Vol 2 still has that "sheen" to it as well. Spindle marks on the labels are minimal, indicating light play.
It was tempting to grade the covers as "Excellent," but with some light scuffs on the front and back, plus a small sticker on Vol 1 (a similar sticker was removed on Vol 2) and other such "normal wear" after 40+ years, VG+ seems fair enough.
Artists include HOUND DOG TAYLOR, EARL HOOKER, LITTLE MACK SIMMONS, HOMESICK JAMES, LEE JACKSON, BETTY EVERETT (Vol 1) and on Vol 2, Andrew "Big Voice" Odom, Jimmy Rogers, Betty Everett, and more.
